Upgrade to Apple Car Play

A Car audio shop just Upgrade my 2017 S500 to Apple Car Play ...I decided to go ahead with the unit design and built by Australian company so can have warranty...it works but for sound I need to connect my phone to Car Bluetooth...so the device just has the display ...so if connect wireless then need to connect to the device and at the same time to my car ( as before) through Bluetooth so in this way I can listen to Tidal or similar in Apple carplay ...
but in the setting of the device itself there is section for Audio adjustments which make me suspicious the shop didn't connect the Audio but they said it's supposed to be like this and the device bring only Display not Audio...can anyone upgrade similar advise if all devices are like this ?

wondering that myself, I had a quote to install another unit from a local place in Bay Area for $1200 which was crazy, totally not worth that much to me! Thoughts on this unit, i know install isn't totally crazy but I would need to find an installer I am not going to try to tackle this job.

GM is full of it. They just don't want to pay Apple and Google licensing fees and want customers to use their own built in systems so they can monetize them,

Actually the main reason is that they are developed their new infotainment system now with google. It is costing them more to partner with google than just using CarPlay or Android Auto but obviously google is forcing them to let go CarPlay. Actually the google infotainment systems are great (at least on some cars released this year). I’d still prefer CarPlay but google systems aren’t that bad (certainly better than the majority of manufacturers infotainment systems).

You need NTG5.5 or NTG5.1 to get Carplay activated by coding

It will depend on how consumers respond. I like CarPlay, personally. I like just having the same system in every car I drive, rental cars etc too, so not having CarPlay would definitely go into whether or not I would buy a GM product.

What I find distasteful is they pretend the reason is because CarPlay isn't safe. Just be real.
