Over 20+ years I had five Acura MDXs as a daily driver, with older Lexus LS sedans as an alternative. In 2019 I bought the S550, liked it so much that last November I bought a loaded 2020 GLS 450. Given its level of luxury and ride, I find I am not driving the S550 as much.
As for size, while the GLS is a couple of inches wider, it is 1.5 inches shorter than the S550.

Jup, for the long wheel base S-Class that is true. Not for the SWB though. I mean the 2020 GLS is a more modern car as it came out in 2019 so I'd expect the infotainment too be very far ahead. But basically anything that is longer than 5 metres (16.5 feet) will start giving you a hard time in German parking garages and parking lots. Just the other day someone touched my car in a parking garage and ran. They're not big scratches but still.

For the most part yes, but there's a couple of annoyances (unless I'm missing something)...1) on the S I can have a split screen with a small navigation pane and the audio pane, but not both on the GLS. 2) I have XM Radio and on the S550 I can get artist & title in the driver's screen, but only the channel info on the GLS driver's screen. I suspect these differences are the same with the 2018+ S.

2015 S550 4 Matic 115,000 miles- Just regular Maintenance plus a couple of coils. Probably have some suspension work and Turbo Coolant lines in the the near future. This has been the most reliable mercedes I have owned over the past 20 years.

Not sure if I can extend the warranty any further, I don't think so as I already extended the factory warranty a few years. My suspension is even more risky as far as major $$$ should something go wrong, my car has the magic body control. It's fully Hydraulic.

Trans service also proved to be easy.
Love the 222 car. In particular MBC. On a certain stretch of road I watch vehicles in front of me suffering through the ‘head toss’ game side to side and up-down. I can hear that suspension is busy but ride through utterly without drama. This with 20” tires aired to 45lbs.
