Navigation is too good sometimes

Going to downtown Raleigh last night. Instead of saying take exit 123 for I40 in 5 miles, it said take Cole Road. I got confused and used my phone instead for directions. Well I checked at dinner and the car was right. The loop or exit we took had a street name. So we used the MB navigation going home.

My partner still thinks it routes funny.

I have had some weird navigation issues with mine: Telling me to turn off of the road I'm on, only to wind around and then come back to the same road again after making the (longer) detour.

I'll check to see if there are any updates for the Nav software at the next service.

That was our experience driving west on I40 in North Carolina. I wish I understood why it does that.

Exclamation Benz Navigation Is Horrible in the West Virginia Mountains

It must be a security feature, so that no one can find you...
The problem relates to repeatedly losing the GPS signal and unmarked roads.
Even Google Maps has the wrong location for our house -- but I'm not complaining...

I don't think it has anything to do with GPS signal, as if I plot my route in the Mercedes Me app, I get the same Zig-Zag nonsense when a straight line is possible.

Maybe the navigation unit is finding a route with no BMW drivers. So you can have a nicer experience. 🙂

It often depends on whether you want the fastest way there or the most scenic way there.

Well that’s a problem in Raleigh because we have many trees and everywhere is scenic. I haven’t found this setting in mbConnect.

From the Owners Manual:

Selecting a route type
Multimedia system:
, Navigation . Route and Position
# Select Route Settings.
# Select the route type.

If route guidance is active, the new route is
calculated with the new route type.
If route guidance is not active, the next route
is calculated with the new route type.

You can choose from the following route types:
* Eco Route
An economical route is calculated. The journey
time may be somewhat longer than for
quicker routes.
The symbol for the current vehicle position is
displayed in green.
* Fast Route
A route with a quick journey time is calculated.
* Short Route
A route with a short driving distance is calculated

Automatic Traffic Jam Avoidance can be
switched on O or off ª for these route types.
If Automatic Traffic Jam Avoidance is switched
on, Ask in the Event of Traffic Jam Avoidance can
be selected.
The Automatic Traffic Jam Avoidance and Ask in
the Event of Traffic Jam Avoidance settings are
not available in every country.
The settings enable the following:
* Automatic Traffic Jam Avoidance
The route is calculated with the currently set
route type.
Traffic reports via Live Traffic Information are
taken into account.
Live Traffic Information is not available in all
countries.
* Ask in the Event of Traffic Jam Avoidance
A prompt appears when a new route is detected
with a shorter journey time based on traffic
reports. You can continue to use the current
route or use the dynamic route instead.

Selecting route options
Multimedia system:
, Navigation . Route and Position
. Avoid Options
Avoiding areas
# Select Areas (→ page 323).
Avoiding highways, ferries, motorail trains,
tunnels, unpaved roads
# Select O or deselect ª avoid option.
Using toll roads
# Select Use Toll Roads.
# Select Cash or Electronic Billing or Off.
The route takes into account roads that
require the payment of a usage fee (toll).
If Off is selected, toll roads are not taken into
account.
The selected route options cannot always be
implemented. Therefore, a route may include a
ferry, for instance, even though the avoid Ferries
option is enabled. A message appears and you
will hear a corresponding message.

My wife and I used to live in N. Raliegh off of Six Forks back in 04-07. I miss all the places to eat but not the traffic

Thanks. Where is this “scenic” route setting that everyone is talking about? Is it only available on the C class? 🥸
