Remote Start from key fob

I’ve seen a few videos supposedly showing a remote start hack using the key fob. For example, press lock once, then press unlock twice, then press lock and hold until the engine starts. I’ve seen others that call for hitting unlock three times, then lock and hold. Has anyone tried these? It would sure be easier than the “me” and its delay, not to mention cost. The feature should be standard on the fob like it is on every other vehicle I’ve owned in the last 10 years.

Hi Barry - we've never seen a vehicle operate this way in its default factory configuration. Does this function work on your vehicle?

Perhaps it's possible that the person in the video was showcasing a remote starter installation of one of our products.
We design / manufacture / sell a whole suite of aftermarket remote start solutions for MB vehicles, and we've become experts in their CAN networks in order to integrate our products. Also, our remote starters work with the vehicle key by briefly pressing the panic button (or lock-unlock-lock). If you're curious to see our coverages, take a look HERE.

Thanks, my S class is a newer year than your list shows. And, no, I haven’t tried it on my car. I’m reluctant to use a hack of any kind that isn’t proven. Too much chance of giving these computers on wheels a nervous breakdown. When I lived in Chicago the remote start feature was a “must have”. Here in Atlanta, not so much. I know the car has the system, just not accessible unless using Mercedes me or a system like yours.

Have you tried remote start from the app? It’s great! NC is not as cold as Chicago (I’m a DePaul graduate) but it’s really handy.

I saw this same thing. From a tech standpoint it makes sense that if the app can do it, it is defaulted to on and it could be coded into a key combination. The key already sends lock/unlock signals, trunk open/close signals, windows open/close signals. The question would be was it coded into a key combo from factory and how close to the car would you have to be for it to work.

You pay mercedes the subscription or you don't get remote start.

There is no hack you can press all the buttons in your remote to your hearts content.

Not much of a secret if they will tell about it!

The key sends the signals it does. Based on how long different buttons are pressed and held the car does different things with the command.

2012 E350 Cabriolet now SOLD to my son
My 2022 Toyota Highlander Platinum AWDdoes remote start from the fob. Open then Open Open quickly and hold the open button on the last press.about 10 seconds so it starts...No it doesnt require the crappy toyota subscription plans.which i refuse to pay for and have expired. HOWEVER when you then open the drivers door , it turns the engine off as a "safety " feature

Prolly Mercedes does have the function on the fob too.
