The only thing I don't like about this product is the huge cutout for the rear view mirror a little excess otherwise it does the job well. Will the job be done better if the cutout was smaller though, maybe?

I agree. I think if it was a tighter fit, it might also make it a little more cumbersome to put on/take off since it may hit the mirror and require adjusting the mirror all the time. Even now, I sort of sometimes accidentally hit the mirror when folding/unfolding, maybe it's just my technique. In terms of protecting the dash and interior, I think it does an excellent job.
