Front Brakes pulling

While in the left-hand of 2 going north, I was doing about 10 mph above and just spotted a cop sitting on the southbound side. Normally I wouldn’t care but I braked (my car is really touchy) and it both nose-dived and pulled to the right. I checked out both sides, no caliper is hanging up, pads and rotors are new. I don’t want to go back to the dealer and find it’s not covered under warranty and I have to pay another $200 diagnostic fee. How does MB dealers typically handle this?

First question is: Is this repeatable? Or a one-time occurrence?

There are so many factors which could influence this behavior, and the brakes are only one….

Exactly! It’s wet out today so I’ll try to repeat what I did tomorrow or the next day.

test in different road and different lane.

did you check caliper slides?
Pad slides?

how do you know calipers are not stuck? did you jack up and remove tires and do what?
were pads tight and would not move or a little bit of clearance?

after you drive, and hard braking is one side hotter then the other?

I removed both front wheels. Checked rotors for out of round with a fixed point sensor and meter (remarkably good runout). Examined each brake pad side for any discoloration, cracks or marks (none). Checked calipers mounted and unmounted - checked sliding bolts, works well and fully lubed. Checked for any play in wheel hub - none detected. I had to stop there as I needed the lift for another vehicle.

I have 12 days left on the warranty so I need any defects now. I just don’t want the dealer to come back saying the problem stems from a maintenance category and I have to foot the diagnostic fee of $212. It’s still wet out so I can’t test yet - dealer appointment is on this Thursday morning.

test in different road and different lane. ‘Not yet, still wet roads”

did you check caliper slides? “See above response”
Pad slides? “See below”

how do you know calipers are not stuck? did you jack up and remove tires and do what? “I have a 2 post Mohawk 10,000lb lift, removed wheels, lowered car with help applied brakes after I removed calipers compressed pistons checked sliding. Without any pedal pressure rotors can turn - with pressure cannot turn. Pads are tight in calipers - rotors are smooth, no glazing, no hot spots.”
were pads tight and would not move or a little bit of clearance?

after you drive, and hard braking is one side hotter then the other? “I shot several spots (with temperature gun) around the brakes/calipers and rotors immediately after an 8 mile run. Temp difference is less than 10% left to right.”

You've done a great job inspecting all the mechanical components. Next thing is a road test to see if it happens again. A road surface can cause a car to veer; it could be something as simple as oil on one side of the road or grooves/ruts in the surface. You probably would have noticed that, but it's not unheard of. If the problem comes back and is consistent then it merits further inspection. Keep us posted

The nose dive is a little more concerning t9o me than the side to side veering. That could be caused bay a bad proportioning valve. But it can be reset/balanced fairly easily. If it doesn't balance then you know you have a problem.
