Washing your wheels works if you want to wash them every day. Like I said being able to enjoy the car without it needing to be washed after a day of driving was the best improvement I made to the car. Ceramic coating the wheels will not make them release brake dust with just a water spray. If you want to stick with the OEM pads that’s your prerogative I’m just saying braking power is just fine with the ceramic pads.
That's true that ceramic coating will not stop your wheels from accumulating brake dust. But a good brake dust repellent certainly will. I applied AutoGlym in early November to my winter wheels and they are still brake dust free. It's also repelled road grime and road salt. I didn't think anything could have been better than the now extinct Armor All repellent, but this AutoGlym is very impressive.

Okay I need to order some AutoGlym. They make a lot of stuff. What exactly do I need to order for the wheels?

I was looking up the 0084200220 brake pads and to me it appears the Genuine Mercedes pads are made by Jurid. I noticed the Jurid name looking at the Mercedes pads but had to search around for a better photo to read exactly what it says. Then I looked at the Jurid pads on FCP and they are under OEM. I dont think FCP is very accurate so take that for what you will.
Also does anyone look at the friction code on the pads? For my W204 the genuine Mercedes were FF for the front pads, and the Ferodo pads I ended up buying were FG, which on paper is supposed to be better stopping at higher temps. Then the rear the Mercedes pads said FF and the ATE pads I bought were GF I believe, so better stopping at lower temps. I think the Quietcast were even higher at GG.
I noticed the W222 Genuine Mercedes show FF. Looking at the ATE pads im seeing HH. I do not know that much about brake pads though from my understanding an HH rating is very aggressive and works better in higher temps, like racing?
Heres the FCP photo of the Genuine Mercedes Pads, showing the Brembo name.

The sprays work OK, I was using the Armor All product for a while, but the problem with these sprays is that you can really only treat the face of the wheel unless you are OK with jacking up the car and removing the wheel to apply to the barrels and calipers every month or so. The OEM Pads generate a ton of dust that gets on everything, it is also very damaging to finishes if left on for any period of time. When I purchased my car with 9K miles on it, the dust was baked and etched into the barrels of the wheels. Had to refinish them to get the coating of dust off. It also makes it a nightmare to work on things like your brakes and suspension components, if you do not wrench on your own car that is not a big deal but for me, I like to do my own brakes. Not sure what all the hesitation is with Powerstop CC pads. I have been running mine for 25K miles now and they are about half done so I expect to get 40K out of them at least, and there are several other forum members with the same experience. They feel OEM to me and there is zero dust. The other issue I had is I have the forged 10 spoke matte black wheels and the spray put a little bit of a shine on them. You have to be very careful with the finish on matte wheels as I have learned, this may not apply to you though.

There are a lot of bad reviews out there. I think the QC has changed or they had some bad batches coming from China that put a dent in their reliability - for some.
One reason I think some of us buy these cars is for safety. Given that, I will just do what the MB engineers used (or exact equivalent) and not think about it … until I look at the wheels. 😊
GOT SOME BAD NEWS. I don’t think AutoGlym is making this stuff anymore. Out of stock everywhere I looked and it isn’t listed on their website either. Even AutoZone didn’t have any!

The issue I had with the spray also is that it does dull the finish of the wheel, not permanently but while its applied.

Definitely not the case with my stock 20" AMG wheels or my 19" after-market AMG replica winter wheels. In fact, the AutoGlym adds a little extra sheen to the wheels. It seems to go on a little heavier than the Armor All, which may explain why it repels brake dust so long.
I'll definitely be spraying the inner barrels of my summer wheels before I put those back on in the Spring to see how well it keeps brake dust from accumulating in there.

Its super subtle, I can only speak to the Armor All product since I haven't used the AutoGlym product but the wheels did subtly shine less with it applied. Don't get me wrong I would still use it...

😱
Hey everyone… I was wrong. (Hold your shock!) They are still making this stuff. 👍🏻
With the dual 5 spoke wheels I have, the barrels are pretty easy to keep clean - especially the rears and I'm hoping that the fronts won't get as dirty with the Z23 pads.
I usually wipe the barrels clean weekly and the fronts are always worse than the rears but the brakes are twice the size.
One thing that comes in handy is the leaf blower.. I have one of the Ego 765 blowers and it blows a good amount of the dust off before wiping. The front brakes hold a lot of dust!
Installed the Powerstop rotors and Z23 pads yesterday. Worn OEM front rotors weigh 33 pounds each. New Powerstop rotors weigh 35 pounds each.
Took 1.5 hours to replace both fronts. Pretty simple.
Any chance that you could post a photo of the final installation? I’m complete happy with the Powerstop pads on the factory rotors, and am considering their rotors when the time comes. Your impressions?
I’m not sure but my guess is that these are original. This car has 32k miles on it and it’s been well taken care of in every respect I can determine. The people who have looked it over have said it’s near perfect save for the brakes and tires. Tires are done so I just have this left. I’m going to do fluids as well just so I know what’s in it and when it was put in.
I showed these to BenzNinja and he said to replace them as well. Now I’m back to figuring out what to go with for pads and rotors. I’m leaning towards Bosch as I’ve heard mixed reviews on the PowerStop. This will be driven by my wife who drives like an old lady (when she doesn’t take my truck) and by me on longer drives to Houston which is five hours of highway. Otherwise it will be going to church a couple of times a week. Yeah - we are kinda boring I guess. 😂
Looking at FCPEuro I see kits for the front but not for the back. I don’t think I even see rotors for the back for my car - 2018 S450 4Matic.
I purchased OEM rotors from FCP EURO and they didn’t last a year. Between driving different cars and being busy at work, I kept forgetting to get them replaced. Luckily, I purchased my brakes and rotors under the old lifetime warranty policy. However, they make you purchase a new set first and wait on your refund. The same rotors were $200 more and I paid $80 for shipping. They only refund what you paid on your initial purchase, so be cognizant of that before you purchase anything from them. They took about 2 weeks to send my refund and I still had to spend about $280 with the lifetime warranty. They advertise lifetime warranty, but it’s not a true lifetime warranty like most companies I’ve dealt with in the past. I would love to hear if other members had any issues with them as well.
