Windshield Embedded Heating Elements?
So I caught a rock the other day and need a new windshield for the 2016. Went to the Safelite website and they ask just two questions: Do I have HUD (yes) and does my car have a 'heating element embedded in the windshield'? They describe it as being under the windshield wipers.
Is heated windshield a standalone code on my build sheet, or would it be part of a package like Warmth and Comfort?
I know from past posts on here that the color of a replacement can be an issue, are there any other characteristics/specs of a replacement that I should be checking for?

i cannot speak to the 2016, but on my 2020, it was optional as the window sticker shows:
option code 597. $550.
to activate it - there was not a separate switch like on my g-wagon, but rather the heating was automatically activated/switched on when you selected the front windscreen blower to max.

When Safelite replaced my windshield, I had to provide them the VIN, so that they could get the correct windshield.
I don't know why it would be different now.

When I went through the Safelite web flow it only promoted for whether I have the two features. Did not ask for VIN.
In fact, it purported to be producing a price quote but ended instead trying to schedule an appointment or start an insurance claim.

Ok, what I found: Per 'lastvin' my car does not have code 597 or any other option that sounds like 'heated windshield'.
This was a standalone option in 2016 and was not part of any package, so pretty sure my car does not have this feature.
Since I'm selling this car I am going to go to Safelite for a 'good enough' windshield for the next owner. If I or my insurance were going to pony up for an OEM windshield through an MB body shop then yes, I'd rely on them to use the VIN in their system to ensure the correct item. But using Safelite I need to make sure they get it right.

If you look at the windshield with a black light you will see tiny fine dashes inside the glass (same for the rear glass) - this is a heated windshield. Please don’t ask me to explain but if you have the heads up option your windshield comes heat ready you just might not have the controller. S class for sale in the Canadian market all have heated windshields in all W222.

To clarify the windshield base (where the wipers seat) is heated for all magic wiper (all USA w222) S class, separately from that the option was offered for heated windshield (whole surface).

So the so-called Magic Vision system of heated wiper fluid includes heating for part of the windshield glass? Learn something new everyday.
Since Magic Vision is standard on W222s, one would think every replacement windshield would come with that partial heating provision.

There are only 2 windshields available, one with all the goodies and one without. The difference is in the options. I have all the options except for the heated windshield, but my car uses the windshield that comes with the heated element. Just had it replaced in September and went through all this with the SA at MB and with the windshield company.
