NEW MEMBER!!! I NEED HELP!!!!! Please!!!

’m new to the group! I just bought my first Mercedes a 2015 s550 with 60k miles! I purchased the car last friday at Koons Woodbridge in Virginia! I heard a small ticking sound when I purchased the car! The mobile PPI that I had done he told me that sound was normal! I took it to Mercedes benz dealership on Monday was told high pressure pump was getting loud and the lifters they will need to lower the engine and replace lifters and high pressure pump! Is this normal???? I can’t understand how a dealership as Koons would sell me a vehicle with these problems! I took the car back Monday and they said they would have to run some tests on it! This **** got me so stressed out has anyone dealt with this problem before? Any feedback is helpful thanks yall!

A small or light ticking sound is normal (at least on my cars). It could be the HPFP or just the direct injection fuel injectors operating, which can be noisy. If it sounds like a diesel engine, you may have problems. I would definitely get a second opinion from a qualified independent shop. You may be able to find one on www.benzshops.com.

As far as Koons goes, well I think all beltway car dealerships are a little sleazy. If you want to protect yourself from future undertainties, you definitely need a proper Mercedes scanner and diagnostic support since this is your first Mercedes. Mercedes are high-tech and can be temperamental, especially the top end S-Class cars. I recommend you consider a membership in the BenzNinja Club where you will get what you need. (See the banner at the top of this page.)

All that said, 60K is not a lot of miles for these cars if they have been maintained well. Can you get a maintenance history from Mercedes? You definitely want to make sure that the car has had its transmission serviced over the last 10 years.

The problem could be serious or a big fat nothing burger. The high pressure fuel pump and injectors on all GDI motors are loud. I assume the rubber caps on the HFPF are still in place, as well as the foam on top of the injectors, if not the car will be noisy.
If you bought the car less than a week ago, I'd demand that they fix it completely or unwind the deal. If you financed the car, the bank will be on your side in rescinding the transaction. But, I hope it turns out to be nothing, just injector and/or HPFP noise.

You're right. There are potentially two avenues to take. First, was the car sold with any type of warranty, such as 30 days or 1000 miles. The second is probably missed. Not sure of the laws in Virginia, but some states allow 72 hours to reverse a deal. Seems like this one is no longer available.

This brings up another point for the OP. He should look into a Vehicle Service Contract (Extended Warranty). @Highline-Autos.com is a good place to check as they are a broker for a couple of different companies.

I thought I had a 30 day 1k miles warranty on the car! Turns out I looked at my paperwork and I got screwed! SMH! I didn’t no that I signed where it says “sold as is” and I am responsible for all repairs! I can’t believe that I was that damn stupid not to see that! The salesman I had brought out a 30 day 1k miles warranty paper that I put my initials on! I’m just praying for the best I appreciate your guys feedback hoping this issue can be resolved with Koons! Would be bad business if they don’t help out at all definitely not a way to treat your your consumers!

Now you have to look through EVERYTHING you have in your paperwork, especially everything you signed. Signing the as-is document just negates a "due bill", but it doesn't negate a warranty, you sign that even when you have a warranty. Now go back and read through everything, and look at the dealer's website to see if they promise any type of warranty on used cars. The promise on the website, or in other paperwork would supercede the as-is document.

Having said all that, it literally might be nothing at this point. Go back to your PPI company and ask them why they thought that noise was "normal". Did they think it came from the injectors, HPFI, or something else? I hope you didn't use Lemon Squad, if you didn't you should be ok. Lemon squad isn't a bad company; they just don't/can't perform the type of thorough exam a car like this needs. And they are too big and lawyered up to hold accountable. If this deal unwinds, find a good independent mechanic in your area first-you should be able to get a referral from someone on this forum-hopefully from someone who owns a W222, but you can also check in other areas of the forum. Then have your new indy mechanic perform the PPI.

In the top paragraph it essentially says this does NOT cancel out any other warranty, whether implied or agreed to.

His only chance at this point is to check Virginia laws (he bought the car in Virginia). But really, this is potentially a hard lesson learned. In an area like Washington, DC, big dealerships like Koons don't expect to see return customers, especially those that are buying any used off-brand they have on the lot. I'm pretty sure Koons is not a Mercedes dealer. But, back to Crunch, get an evaluation from a Mercedes specialist.

Another option is to just buy a warranty for the car. There is usually a 30 day/1k mile period before the warranty kicks in after purchase and most don't require an inspection to purchase coverage. Then wait a couple of months after buying the warranty and make a claim to have it fixed (if it indeed needs fixing). I have an exclusionary policy through Endurance that has paid out over $13k in claims in the last 4+ years. Any warranty you do buy be sure it is exclusionary and not named component. It will be well worth your money if you get at least 5 years and 100k miles of coverage as it will more than pay for itself on an S-class.

Hopefully it's nothing major. When I purchased my S63 in September of last year, it had a developed a slight ticking noise. When I took it in for an oil change, the mechanic noticed it also. Checked under the hood and the hood release cable was routed on the top edge of the air boxes which caused it to vibrate when the fan was running. Rerouted the cable to the correct location and problem solved.

Slight ticking is normal and it’s across virtually all Mercedes engines. Fuel pump, injectors, purge valves, lifters, there’s an unlimited list. Personally, I wouldn’t worry about it.

If you’re looking for expert advice and opinion on the issue your car may or may not have, go see Emile and Eddie at BenzElite in Fairfax, VA. Without question the best Benz shop in the northeast in my opinion. They’ll shoot you straight.

Posted in your other thread, I would take it to Patrik at MB Automotive Services in Rockville. BenzElite posted above is also well regarded, but I don't have any firsthand experience. I wouldn't take it to the dealer, let Patrik or those guys look at it.

If needed this is a good independent shop not far from you. I’ve used them and would go back.

For sure you should buy a warranty regardless, I haven't had to use mine yet but I sleep better at night. There is a 1 month 1,000 miles waiting period. either way I would recommend it.
