Trickle Chaeger

Does anyone know if Mercedes-Benz’s battery maintainer/trickle charger 0009820221 is safe to use on a W222? I don’t drive much as I used to as I work from home. Also, I travel quite a bit for work - and that’s via car service or plane. This adds up to cars sitting garaged without a driver or place to go. Which is ripe for batteries that are slowly discharging until i am able to get behind the wheel.

I have had code P0348 “camshaft sensor high in xyz bank” pop up a few times recently (I understand low voltage can cause these codes to appear). Also, I’ve been receiving the message to start the engine (so alternator can do its work) after periods of non-use.

All of that led to the purchase of Mercedes charger above. I bought it a few months ago and haven’t used it. it was the only MB branded charger, which appeared to be a very respectable CTEK in Mercedes’ clothing. Reading some recent posts and want to ensure I’m safe to use before I go and hook up the alligator clamps to my battery.

Thanks in advance.

CTEC chargers are among the best you can have running with it

It seems most car branded trickle chargers are not the best option unless you can find a number on it to match. They seem to go with basic units.

A good CTEC is fine and I’ve always used Deltran Battery Tenders on my cars… from Fcars, MBs, BMWs, Either is a good choice.

Just get the appropriate charger for AGM or Lithium Ion depending on what you have, the W222 likely has AGM so you can get the mxs 5.0 or the noco 5 (which the latter btw supports both battery types): https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...enius-5-a.html
As for the one OP already have if it charges the right battery type and the W222 has the right battery type I don't see why it won't be compatible.

C-Tek is the way to go. I have my W222 on a C-Tek in my garage at this very moment.

I have a MBZ branded charger and as far as I can determine it is a CTEK with a MBZ label. Price was about the same as the same CTEK. SO far it does the job perfectly.

I use a CTEK (Model 40-206 MXS 5.0) for my S560 and other vehicles. It can change AGM battery. If you get one with the MBZ labor, make sure it can also change AGM.

thanks… this is what I was getting at. I’m going to dig a bit deeper but believe the foundation of what I have is CTEK just with MBZ branding on it. In hindsight I would’ve just bought purely as CTEK with CTEK branding. But, short of trashing, gifting , selling what I have, I’ll make do so long as it isn’t doing damage

What was your particular MB part number product designed for, which models, if they all use the same battery type I don't see an issue.
