Fair to say... Maybe a couple of hundreds is somewhat acceptable but if it is 1K before tax for Service A... that door rate they are charging is way too high. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...7e6ec2094.jpeg

Personally I want to have the proper maintenance done, I want to have that record that the A and B services were done on time, I'd rather have that from an independent than just oil changes from the dealer.

Fair stuff just make sure to shop around dealerships for best prices : ) since service A or B prices does seem to vary at different MB dealerships.

Honestly, I have not taken to that detail but I trust in your words too. Well, let's say a chain restaurants or coffee shops for a moment . They must be serving same quality, same taste regardless of where they are including price too

I use the dealer for the small services because its easy, I could save a couple hundred dollars taking it to my independent but I get the loaner etc at Mercedes. Big stuff, brakes, spark plugs etc I take to the independent.
MB Pre-Paid maintenance will cover whatever is due per Mercedes' maintenance schedule. Mercedes pre-paid B-Service will be fresh engine oil and filter, wiper blades, tire rotation (with non-staggered wheels/tires), brake fluid flush and inspections + reset the maintenance reminder. Your four cylinder powered car has 50,000 on it? It will get spark plugs (and filters? I forget) to go with the A service. 60,000 miles will get a transmission service to go with the B service. MB will happily sell pre-paid maintenance for much longer terms than the typical 30,000 miles. That just means the sales department made the bulk of the money rather than the service department. Pre-paid maintenance is always miles or time. Whichever comes first. Car has 500 miles on it with the cluster asking for a B-Service after two years? It gets one.

Well, you want to change the oil every year minimum regardless of mileage so there is that.

Exactly, and no need to use MB Branded Oil , it just needs to meet Mercedes-Benz's recommended specs that can be found on the label . Dealers are expensive but there's a little detail that is overlooked by me and other owners as well. It's the brand of the oil . If it's an original labeleld Mercedes-Benz oil , it's way more than expensive than generic oils .

For prepaid maintenance packages, anyone tried online shopping? My local dealership keeps reminding me of their deals: 1A+1B for ~$2200, 1A+2B for ~$3000. I heard some guys at MB dealerships had been selling cheap packages online, but just couldn't find them.

It is probably the same as extended warranties, there was a go to guy on mbworld that helps with selling these, he worked at a dealership and can be purchased regardless of which state you are in. It would probably make sense that is true for ppm as well.

That seems to be odd pricing-- do you mean "2A + 1B"?
If 2A + 1B for $3K is the offer, that makes A service $800 and B service $1400. Seems about 2x what it should cost.

Does that pass for 'A Deal' in your neighborhood?

Pricing varies widely around the country... The World.

Each dealership will have their own version of an A or B service.

Pricing also varies widely based on what car. The $40.00 set of wipers for a C-Class being over $250.00 for those of us with 'Magic Vision' wipers among other things.

MB pre-paid maintenance pays dealerships the same everywhere in the country and it covers all that MB wants done in the maintenance chart. A package purchased through MB will show up in the VMI when pulled by your friendly service advisor.

The PPM and A and B services charges are based on your Vehicle and which MB tier it falls into. For example, A class 4 cyl is tier 1 while a CLE 53 is Tier 3...so the PPM is more for a tier 3

That makes sense because the larger engines have more capacity etc, but there is so much variability between dealers its crazy...and when you look at what they actually do the cost per item is astronomical. But...somebody's gotta pay for that dealer
