Panamerica Grill. No Star on hood.

Controversial.

I have a 2018 s63 and am looking forward to the new s63. I would be ok with the grill but I do want or would like the star on the hood. It's not the correct move IMO

It also looks like they're bringing back the "manly" rear brake calipers too; I'm definitely not a fan of the Pan grille on the E63 but I'll reserve my bias until I actually see it on the S.

We should see what Gordon Wagener comes up with here though. Sometimes a bold new direction can be good if well-executed.

I find the styling acceptable, the interior elegant and luxurious but the switch to haptic controls, being forced to use that huge and cheap looking screen turns me off of that car.
S73e will most likely be the ultimate luxury car and I would jump into that purchase with no hesitation but it seems to me that W222 gen will be the last I have ever owned.
After owning every generation S-Class since 450SEL I will switch to a different brand, might even go full electric (Lucid, although my wife warns me against it and asking me to stay with MB like GT73e or G73e

Well put.

I gotta say, I do have a love for that GT63 car man, on looks alone. I'm a big CLS fan obviously and that GT car really nails it for me personally!

I agree with your wife. I don't think you'll find satisfaction with non MB brands. The EQS will be here in 2022. I'd rather buy an electric car from the inventor of the automobile who's been building cars for more than a century than some inexperienced new to the market upstart. Just mho and 2 cents.

I'm very interested to see how a Panamericana grill will work on the S-AMG. I still think the best approach however is to have the traditional look with a star mounted on the hood and just four square pipes and a mean exhaust. The ultimate sleeper.

The original W198 Gullwing had the star emblem in the center of the grill. That's the look AMG is going for and that's why I don't have a problem with it. I figure if it's good enough for the iconic Gullwing, then it's good enough for me. This is also despite loving the star emblem on my W201 on the hood and not the grill. It reminds me of the 540K which was designed by Dr. Porsche when he was MB's chief engineer.

190Efan,
...........without the star there is NO heritage or lineage for the Panamerican grill. As for the S Class and those who love it, I can only imagine that the Panamericana grill is reluctantly acceptable in the AMG model only.

E190fan was spot-on with his comments although he focused on the center star rather than the Panamericana grill. There is plenty of heritage for the star and one could say for the grill
The center star has been present in countless Mercedes sports cars and the Panamericana grill debuted in 1952 on the a special build of the 300SL Gullwing model.

This is clearly new for the to the S-Class though although that grill is here to stay for a while. The W223 S-AMG will also loose the hood star.

That grill no doubt has its benefits for racing applications but the production 300SL did not use that grill.

The regular 300SL Gullwing is clearly the better looking and iconic car too.
It seems pretty common that car companies go back to their past and pick out design elements or names but I am not a fan of duplicating the same grills, wheels and other design elements up and down the model range.
It cheapens the top of the line models but sells more cars overall.

Apart from all that I love the Panamericana grill on our GTC roadster

I find your name calling highly offensive and unacceptable. You didn't read my post very carefully. I never said anything about no star. I said that the star in the grill instead of on the hood is where it is on the iconic, original W198 Gullwing and that's the look MB has been going for with it's newer models. I can't help you if you don't like the original Gullwing. The original Gullwing happens to be one of the most iconic cars ever built and one of my favorite MBs of all time. I suggest you read people's posts more carefully before you start in with offensive insults.

They will be available in a year (end of 21) and intro would be earliest in the summer 21

190Efan it seems you have taken my humorous reference a bit to personally, I beg your pardon.

In my opinion, the Panamericana grill is hardly a connection to Mercedes’ heritage compared to the twin bar and star from the 300SL that used to identify AMG models and the new grill seems most appropriate on the GT R/Pro/BS AMGs.

In the past months since Jan and the launch of newly facelifted and model series cars it seems they’ve mostly been received by faithful following with tepid enthusiasm so I’m betting the same holds true thenthe S Class fans and the W223.

Not a fan of the panamericana grill for the S-class but the grill has been on AMG’s since 2017. So hardly a new thing and on many models I prefer the look to the older grill design.
I have seen more complaints about taillights than the grill.

The S is not a Gullwing. Furthermore, this grill is also offered on the lower entry lines starting with the GLA, so not really exclusive company. Works for one but not necessarily for all. Personally I don't care for it but I feel more passionately about the omission of the star. That's a mistake but I don't think MB cares.

S550 coupe
What is the price of the S580 in the US, since MBUSA is MIA again?

The delta to an S560 should give the S63 price increase?
