Is the W223 different enough for most people to be able to tell the W222 is old?

From the outside, I was wondering how many people would be able to notice enough of a difference to know the W222 is old. I'm looking at a 2015 S550 currently and am very excited because I'm hoping to buy it soon. When comparing to the new W223, from the outside it looks very similar, and I'm not sure how many people will be able to discern a difference.

The interior is very different, BUT IMO the 2015 model interior does not look outdated at all. Most new cars these days don't have a digital dash, ambient lighting, and so on.

Thank you for your input, and best regards.

Are you buying it for yourself or for other people to look at?

I understand your point. I think it is important to buy something you love, because ultimately you will be driving and enjoying it. Please know I understand your point, and I do agree with you.

But, I am also looking for a flagship vehicle. On my list is Range Rover, S Class, and G Class.

I have heard RR has many reliability issues, so I have decided to not go for it. G Class is very expensive, and I'm not sure if it is worth that much more cost especially since I am not in LA. S Class is a flagship vehicle, very nice features, and something I believe I will enjoy.

The G-Wagon ages better because it already looks old. Or retro Great SUV IMO with unmatched resale value for any current Mercedes...

I agree, i personally think S class is the way to go, it is the flagship. So get the newest you can afford and enjoy!

This place is a joke.
Most people can't tell the difference between C, E, and S class since 2015. So I wouldn't worry about it. Last week I saw what I thought was a 2003 or so G wagon, thinking it looked really clean. Then I got close in traffic and it was a 2020/21 G550, silver with the standard wheels. Whoops!

Yes! G Wagon definitely looks amazing and I am glad they don't change it much TBH. The only thing is the interior refresh in 2019 is something that is a must have if I went with a G wagon. Right now still very high in terms of price.

I (had) a 2018 S560 and have had new S-classes since 2004. I also daily drive a 2014 RR Supercharged LWB, with nearly 90k miles. The work done on the RR is considerably less than the S-class save for routine maintenance. The worst issue I had was a control arm replacement, about $500.

I think RR's were bad in the late '90s, early 2000s. The quality is much better now. With that said, while I do love the S-class the trend is strongly moving towards SUVs. The residual or depreciation value of the RR will be better in my opinion than the S-class, especially buying new.

The new price of the S-class is also a big turn-off, especially because it will lose so much of its purchase price after buying new. Lastly, while the styling is modern and fresh, how distinguishable is it? As much as I hate to say it, luxury sedans are a thing of the past. Even MB realizes that (see GLS Maybach, etc.)

My vote would be for a new RR.

IMHO with time the W222 will look outdated relative to the W223 and in particular the interior.

No, I do not think so. The New Mercedes still follow the exact same design language and it would be hard to argue the interior is dated except the pre-facelifts do not have apple carplay. The W222 w/ AMG Line still looks very new in my opinion. People will realize there is a new S-Class, but it will not outdated the w222 like the w222 did the w221.

Doubt it. The w223 interior doesn't make the w222 look old at all. The new C has a very similar interior as the w223, kind of lame if you ask me.

The last S-Class that looked old is the W140.

All others look equally "new" except maybe the w222 and w223 a little moreso because of the round bulbous asthetic. You're just biased because the new ones are cleaner/shinier.

If we're only looking at it from the exterior, we think there's a significant amount of difference to them that makes the W223 if compared. But if the W222 relatively looks old on its own, we think its still fresh enough

No more MB:(
Strange post. You need to buy what you like. Not what others think. Any car will look old after time, even the 223. However I think the 222 will go down as the best looking S class range, truly distinct and elegant.
