Upcharge!!!

I went by my local dealership to get some warranty work done and 3 or 4 new S classes were on the floor. They added $10,000 to the window sticker on almost all cars to compensate for market conditions. One G Wagen was upcharged $100,000 for the same reason. The window sticker is $195,000 and an additional $100,000 was added for a total of nearly $300K. Is everyone seeing this across the board?

Quite common. Supply is very low and there is high demand for both vehicles.

In the end it's a business so the stealer's are trying to maximize profits. They will continue to have these markups as long as ppl are willing to pay them.

Just think, if you bought the GWagen, the depreciation loss would be $150K the second you drive off the lot with it.

Before I got my S i was shopping for an escalade. Nearly every dealer I've contacted wanted 7-25k over sticker.

I don't care how bad i want or how rare a car is. I'm not paying over MSRP. There are probably 10s of thousands of cars built in a day. I'll just go to a different dealer or pick a different car.

Aside from markups, the G wagon has one of the highest residuals of all vehicles...

If bought at MSRP, they will likely have zero depreciation at all for the first year or two even when driving it for a sizable amount (15k miles a year). I forgot what the dealer told but the lead-time goes easily to 18 months and that may not change quickly...

Markups at the moment are normal due to supply versus demand, although the size of said markups depends on regions and dealers. All of my dealer’s ‘21 S Allocations were sold at either MSRP (if ordered some time ago) or $5-10k in markups and no more than that. The largest my dealer has had is of course the GT-BS at $75k and a few G63’s around $40-50k each, all of course, sold. Even regular cars such as GLE’s and GLS’ are being marked up. The current market is definitely crazy!

Typically when a Mercedes-Benz dealer has only the MSRP listed on a new vehicle, they're going to be adding at least another $10,000 to the price, regardless of market conditions. $100,000 increase means they do not what to sell the car, but want it used as their showroom model, for test drives and helping customers spec their own.

I called my Mercedes dealer and he agreed to allow me to special order an S580 and is offering me an 8% discount. In this marketplace I am very pleased.

Dealer wanted $10k markup. Agreed to $5k markup.

I am OK with that knowing market conditions and the fact that this is a new model release.

Almost all dealers in Boston area had $5-10k markup and cars were selling fast.

G63's have been selling for $50k markups since the new model was introduced. The only difference has been that many MB dealers in the country stuck with MSRP on new cars. I have seen new cars marked as used or have owners flip them. Now the dealers doing the markup unless you have a relationship with them.

Totally agree.
We are also now lucky to know all this news in advance. My car lease is up December 2022. I will have plenty of time to plan in advance what I want to do.
Those who's cars are going back during this current climate might just want to buy the car instead of turning it in since I gather the "end of lease" purchase price was in stated the contract.
Used car prices have been ticking up significantly as well.
Client of ours custom ordered a BMW X5M and put down a deposit and agreed to a lease price, etc. His SUV came in and BMW (dealership in Jersey) stonewalled him on taking delivery before finally rescinding the altogether and returning the deposit if a premium of the equivalent of $6000 wasn't paid (built into the monthly lease).
Client declined of course, and I don't know if that car has since been sold at the new price.
Client is now without a car with no other options out there.
Crazy world - but I predict after this madness is over - dealerships who raped customers like this situation will be remembered.

I would think that most of us on this forum (S owners) are capitalists and free traders at heart. With the chip shortage and the auto market in crazy as shi* upheaval supply and demand rules. If you want a W223 you may have to pay more than what has been traditionally normal for a new car. As for me I love the free market.

E Class
This is pretty common here too, a lot of AMG are close to 10-20000 canadian dollars higher than MSRP. I saw a GLC 63 S selling for 125000 Canadian Dollars. I also saw a C63 S coupe selling for $120,000 (116k + around 5% gst) last week when they would go for less than 100k usually. We bought an X7 40i in August of 2020 and we got it with premium excellence package for $109,500. X7 40i here go for 130,000 with the most basic package now, it's insane. G63 AMG was going for $70000 over MSRP at the dealer I got the E class from and GLS 450 can't be had for less than $130,000 plus tax now. They do this by charging like 7000-8000 for freight and pdi and also inflating the MSRP.

They said there's a chip shortage and they don't receive anything now and they have a total of 20 vehicles in the lot now and so they just inflate the pricing to make up for it.

I bought at Mercedes of North Palm Beach for MSRP. They were awesome to work with!
Mercedes of Tampa was also selling for MSRP.

I refused to work with a dealership that up charged. Mercedes of Naples’s and Coconut Creek both wanted up charges so I drove an hour to North Palm Beach. They have earned a customer for life.

If they would throw in a large mushroom, pepperoni and extra cheese pie from Fiori’s I might give up my 8% discount and drive up from Georgia

That’s my dealer. Haven’t bought a car from them but they have serviced my MY18 S class and 16 GLE 400 with no issues. In fact I just got a letter from them saying they would buy my S class.
