I plugged in a 128GB USB-C 3.1 memory chip in a slot in the center console storage bin. The dash cam works well manually. Do you have to turn on the dash cam ON before every drive? This would be great if you didn't. I have the "continuous loop" option enabled.

It would also be nice if you could integrate the rear camera into the dash cam recording as well please... if your listening MB Engineering What the heck, we'll add a 1TB memory stick in there and let us record the side cameras as well. Oh that will be on the 2024's, I see...

Difficult for the rear camera as it should normally be hidden to avoid getting dirty. Should be almost straightforward for the others.

Anyone tested the alarm system photos, does it capture photos from all cameras or just the front one? Only the front one would be useless three out of four incidents.

Checked the W223 built in dash cam video on the memory stick. Player works well on Windows 10 with an option to display in what they call 360 Degree Video. Its in the "3-dot" additional menu. Its fish-eye style view with the ability to drag around in the video. Not true 360, more like 120+.

There are options for labeling and saving recordings as well. Quality is okay but not super high definition with the ability to read a plate in daylight starting at about 3 meters away. Night recording catches the reflection off the windshield of whats showing on the main console screen. Haven't confirmed its auto-start recording yet or whats the largest memory stick you can use. Does not appear to capture audio. Videos are time & date stamped.

Dash cam only showed me front of car. Loop is what I use. I believe you have to switch it on each time. You can make it as one favorite for quick start. You can play the video on the center console.

Yes, you have to manually switch it on each time, either by speech/voice recognition (saw this done in Youtube) or by pressing a few buttons.

Since it's not auto-starting in the US, the verbal request that works for me to start the dash cam recording in the W223/V223 has been " Switch on the dash cam recording "

The verbal command doesn't always work after starting the vehicle and I'm not sure why. Errors include " I can't find that now " or " That device is not ready " Maybe it's a timing thing.

Seems as if she prefers "switch on-off" compared to " turn on-off" commands for a lot of things.

I thought "she" might do it if you added "please" but perhaps a more brutal German approach "dash cam on" would actually work better.

I do not speak from experience but I wonder if this ''dash cam switching on'' function can be enabled in an ''Individual'' profile mode?

And, I think the Owner Manual gives a good hint that ''switch on-off'' is preferred over ''turn on-off'' as the manual also uses the former (rather than the latter) as the choice of words.

Probably another option is to make that as a favorite and then easily switch it on by touching the favorite.

I just placed my order for EQS580 yesterday and my salesperson could not find the option for a dashcam. I do want it. So, as you show in the app, it'll activate it online.

A snowplow vibrated my car. I got instant notification. No contact thank goodness. The pictures saved were from all of the cameras including the rear which must have opened for this express purpose.

There is a row of icons on the top right of the infotainment screen; one of them is the dashcam and it's status. Touch it and you can start it, stop it, and put it in loop, as well as a few other actions.

Loop... I'm not clear if it was actually added or was there and didn't work but it was made functional in a software update after the car's release, it wasn't at first available.

The S580 is going to come with the dashcam in the US, you don't need the app to purchase as it will show as already purchased. You do need to provide it a drive and turn it on and I'd recommend enabling loop so it automatically starts.

This will fill up an 8 gig drive you may have had in your drawer since 2002 and decided to use for the purpose in a hurry. Just saying...

This may seem a silly question… driving a 2022 S580 and currently using the Dashcam. I’m getting a notice that my “Free trial” will run out in April and it’s $200.00 for the Dashcam. Am I understanding by your post that I don’t need to pay that?

Oh no, you gotta pay. I only meant it's going to come installed and working. After your year is up, ka-ching...

Can someone confirm the resolution of all the four cameras? Is the front one still 720p or has been upgrade to 1080p (or even 2K)?

The dashcam is permanently activated. The only thing you may have to repurchase is services such as vehicle monitoring (track and locating), law enforcement support, map updates, remote start, etc. anything that says it is only activated for a year. Anything that says permanent like dashcam or navigation is a one time charge.

Yes, Thank You…I did not have to pay for the Dashcam renewal

So, has anyone figured out, with certainty, why some members have auto-starting dashcams, while others must start it manually each time?

Just regional difference, or is software version related?

And for those trapped in manual regions, is it possible to resolve this through aftermarket coding?

I think its regional locked because I've seen some YouTube videos of others being able to enable auto-record on engine start. Also some versions of the manual mention there is a settings option in the dash-cam app that you can toggle to auto record on engine start (but the toggle is not present on my car either). I have a 2023 S500 and I have to manually start to record. Either through the touch screen or I also set-up a hand gesture when you make the v/peace sign it starts recording. Having to manually start it each time defeats the purpose of a dash-cam feature in my opinion. The dealership and service shops for Mercedes are clueless as a non tech person would be so no support from them.

I think you can "code" it into the system but you have to pay for it for someone to do it remotely or something. I haven't looked into this that much. I use 500 gb Samsung T7 SSD over USB-C and it works great.

If you're in the US you should be able to turn it on. The early cars didn't have an auto-start, it was added in later in an update that wasn't pushed, that's why you see yes and no as you go back in time in a search. You'd have to go in to get updated software if you have a US car that doesn't have the option. To check for it the easy way you can ttap the upper right of the screen where the status symbols are and access the dashcam settings from there.

It's RL_NTG7_E329.602_23065AC3 on my car.

But really, just ask your dealer to give you whatever latest version is available, and you should be fine.
