Undocumented "Features"

I thought I'd start a new thread on undocumented features that we've found in our cars and post them here.

I stumbled on this the other day. Can't find it mentioned in the manual, or elsewhere.

I open my sunroof almost every time I drive my car. But I don't like that the sunshade then closes partially (to the rear of the opening of the sunroof). One day I swiped back (as if to open the sunroof again) and the sunshade then fully opened letting in as much sunlight as possible! Now, I can have the sunroof open and the front and back sunshades fully opened, too! It's great!!!

At a stop put your foot firmly down on the brake pedal release and your car will stay stopped until you touch gas pedal. Great at long traffic lights! Hold sign shows up on the HUD.

But when you swipe again, doesn’t the glass sunroof open? That’s what happens with me.

Yes. But I like to drive with my sunroof (glass) open almost every drive. When my sunroof is open, I’d like the sunshade to be fully open as well. After the sunroof opens, if you swipe back once more, it fully opens the sunshade too.

Since you mentioned that, and I am curious is there a way to do the opposite, and have the sunshade completely closed while the sunroof is open, so basically having sound fresh air from the top but without the sunlight?

I seriously doubt it. I would think there would be a very high risk that the sunshade could get ripped if the glass was open.

To your point:

I've had cars that allowed tilt but not "open" while the mechanical shade was closed -- these cars had slats/vents in the shade though to my recollection. I think other cars allow tilt but force a few inches of shade open for air flow

I like the manual sunshades where you can open the sunroof then close the sunshade manually and let some air from the top while blocking some sunlight.

Here’s one thats done damage to the front lower bottom of front bumper.
I noticed that the car after being driven then park, the car settles/lowers a bit. Then when starting up again and I reverse, the front bumper scratches or gets caught in the parking space guard (the strip of concrete).
I have to remember to raise vehicle when i park,, but often forget!

Good one Sonic; I once parked and could barely open the door to get out due to a parking divider. When I got back I couldn't open the door. Ever since then I've been careful not to get the front or back over curbs or whatever may cause damage when the car lowers. Panamera's do the same thing, but they're low enough you can't get over much of anything anyway, so it isn't much of a worry.

EXACTLY! That’s why I consider it “undocumented.” The manual should caution that the car lowers/settles after shutting down! WTF!

Now that you mentioned it I seen threads such as this one (https://mbworld.org/forums/c450-c43-...ml#post7091885) of even C-Class owners driving all the way to the parking curb alone but when they invited passengers in the car, the moment the car was reversed, they pulled the whole front bumper off, ouch : (

Also it might be overlooked when exiting the car that the roof is still open. On an occasion a person may exit the car, be in a hurry, not look back at the car to notice the sunroof is open. Then rain comes down!

Was hoping the Mercedes Me app will prompt or they could always add a feature that reminds me every time you get out of the vehicle (or driver door is open) to check if sunroof is left opened or it is intended, you know the types of annoying warnings that MB always had "Do not forget your key" and with the sound or something like the "Do not forget your phone" on newer MBs if left in the vehicle connected or plugged in. Last but not least for MB vehicles equipped with the Routine feature (like seen on the W214 E-Class), they can set a if this then that routine.

In some countries the sunroof uses the rain sensor to automatically close the sunroof but sadly I heard North America doesn't get it for some odd reason.
