I noticed in some videos I’ve watched the for the ones optioned with the 4D surround sound, the over head speaker (the one in the middle in between the driver and passenger) lights up like the one in front and syncs with the ambient color selected.
I have a 2021 S580 with the 4D surround sound option but my middle overhead speaker doesn’t light up. Thought that was normal until I noticed some videos I’ve seen has that speaker grill with ambient light.
Anyone with this option noticed the same?
I just want to make sure it’s not a default with mine because if it is, I’m taking it to the dealer to look at asap.

I'm having the same situation with mine. Have you discovered the answer yet?

No.. I’m guessing the 2021 ones just don’t light up. However I ordered one with ambient light from a Chinese company and installed it myself. Now I have one that lights up. I posted pics on this forum a few weeks ago.
Mine is 2022 and lights up. Any chance you guys dont have the active ambient lighting? I'm not sure if active ambient lighting encompasses that or not
I have the active ambient light and it works just fine. I don’t think it has anything to do with that. I’m thinking they just didn’t have that option for most 2021 models maybe had something to do with chip shortage?
I replaced mine with one I ordered online that has the ambient light. When I removed the original one, it looked like it has the lights in it and was wired to light up. No idea why it never did. Anyways, I like the one I replaced it with. It was tough to install, running the wires all the way to the passenger side front footwell light. But it was worth it in my opinion.
Question is it a Burmester speaker 🔊 and how is the sound quality. Oh can you just utilize the ambient lighting portion and keep the speakers which came with the system 🤔?

I don’t think it’s a Burmester speaker but the sound quality seemed the same as the original. What I did do after a few days though was remove the two small speakers inside and replace it with the speakers from the original unit just in case. Couldn’t really tell a difference but just wanted to do so since it was relatively easy to do and I didn’t want to be in my head about it ,thinking the quality was less. So basically it’s up to you but in my opinion there really wasn’t a difference.
Interesting. In terms of lighting alone, I think you actually got an 'upgrade' here over the OEM burmester 4D - the OEM ceiling speaker most certainly does not have the illuminated central circle
By the way, did your car ship with the rear center armrest tablet?
Mine doesn't, but there is still an empty socket on top of the rear armrest, and it really urks me something fierce.
I purchased one via the aftermarket, but was then unable to connect it to the car. I was told that I must also install the rear entertainment package for the tablet to function - the removable tablet only connects to the rear seat mounted screens, which in turn connect to the center computer....
Regarding towards the ceiling speaker, the outer edge is supposed to illuminate and unfortunately it isn't. On the 2022 they have it to were it have a circle center to light up. Now for the table I have the entertainment pkg, so the table and the screen are in tandem with one another. I'm quite surprised that you do not have the monitors. And yes the tablet can change certain things throughout the vehicle, both front and rear. Hope that helps

Thanks man I intentionally skipped the rear entertainment option, to avoid unwanted interference from my 4-year old kid. And of course I also don't mind the additional cabin space savings from not having two screen mounts protruding from the rear seats.
When I'm sitting in the back myself, though, I do miss the ability to control various settings from behind. A removable tablet would thus fit my bill here. Just stow it when the kid is aboard.
Speaking of which, I'd still like to know whether OP has this tablet in his car. There's no rear entertainment screens in those pictures he posted. I wonder if his car, like mine, also came with an empty tablet socket in the back?

hey.. I don’t have the tablet either and wasn’t expecting to have one since I didn’t option for the rear entertainment package. I have the opened spot in my arm rest it would’ve been placed in if I got it though. Doesn’t bother me at all because I never really cared for it.
The rear screens don't impede the space either physically or sensually to me or anyone I've had in the car so far. The child factor on the other hand; Big problem. The other day I took my first spin with grandchildren and they were most def entertained by all the switchgear and such, not all of which I figured out how to disable. IMO there should absolutely be a one touch childproofing solution because if I had rope in the car I would have either hung them or myself. Yes, I'm kidding but it's hard to believe no one thought of the grandchild angle in an old man's car. Major omission.
This is only me assuming, I think at the least bit it should be pre- wired for the upgrade if it did not come with them.
Yes and No.. it’s prewired for the speaker but the wire for the ambient light is not compatible with the speaker ordered even though there’s another wire that seems like it should be for the light. You will have to use the wires supplied in the kit and run it through the side door panel to the front passenger side footwell to connect with the footwell ambient light wire.
it’s a little complicated but if you ever get it I’ll be more than happy to walk you through the process.

What am I not understanding you’re willing to install aftermarket of lesser quality inclusive of re-wiring rather than have this matter resolved under factory warranty with OEM part at no cost? If you’re not happy with current dealer try another dealer. Did you request PTSS case be opened with MBUSA to dealer & corporate?
Heyyyyy friends, finally after 2 years of stressing over on finding out what to do to have what initially was supposed to be offered from the launch of the S Class. Today it's installed and working as it should.
If you're interested in doing this, just Google the Ambient Roof Speaker for the S580. You'll see quite a few ones available ( more than likely from the same distributor). It'll take a few weeks to arrive, but once you have it, the install isn't really too difficult for a decent audio installer to complete the work. They range from $350 - under $600. FYI I took the liberty to record the entire instalation on YouTube. It will be under the same tag ( 2021 Mercedes Benz S580 4MATIC Executive Line Pkg/ Ambient Roof Speaker instalation. If there are any questions please feel free to ask. I'm so happy.

Hi @konigstiger
First of all, thanks for your continuous great support in this forum. You've been tremendous help!
I have one of the first '21 W233 ordered. Fully loaded (including 4D Burmester and active ambient lighting). The overhead center speaker does not light up as mentioned above.
Are you saying that it is pre-wired with the ambient lighting and just need to go to dealer to "complain" and have it activated? (I hope that's what you mean )

YES!! I bought the same year and noticed the same thing. I thought it was normal but over time in some videos others had working lights. I bought it brand new so I recently took it back to the dealer and they said that they would fix it but I'm pretty sure it never worked. I'll post once I get back!with an update.
2021 S580 4 Matic Executive Line 4D Speakers 10 CM Steering as options I added.
