The New 7-Series is Here to Battle the S-Class - If You Can Get Past the Front End!

I could not drive the 7 series; it’s just not visually appealing to me. I like Audis, and had very good experiences with them, but the interior looks dated to me now. It use to be top notch in terms of technology but others have leapfrogged ahead of it. The speed is certainly nice but after driving and owning a lot of TT V8s, I found myself hardly ever using its full capability. Other than the occasional street light escape or freeway on ramp romp, I spent 99.999% of my time driving around like a grandpa lol (disclaimer I’m not a grandpa yet). The smaller engine suits me just fine and I definitely don’t miss the 12 to 14 MPG driving around town.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

The new BMW is great. I love it, and get so many compliments, all the time.
You have an idea of how my S-class cars I have had, and the effort I put into them, but this BMW is more comfortable and drives better than any other luxury car I have ever owned.
I am sure many will disagree, but I really don't think it is close this year, at least not for me. In 2 years or so, I won't even think twice about Mercedes, it will be another 7 Individual.
Hope all is well!

When I buy my S class cars,I order all the options that are available, so I’m sure it did, if it was available.
I do remember, specifically, when I got Magic Body Control the very first time, it made a difference in how you felt the bumps.
I also think one of the reasons that BMW drives better than the Mercedes, is the non run flats, granted you could take the run flats off a Mercedes.
Every time I drive the BMW, I’m amazed at how it feels so comfortable and the ride so good, yet you have great control at the steering wheel.
Can’t tell you how many times my wife has said stop driving this car like it was the Taycan, granted our perception is most likely a little different than hers.

I had looked a the Flying Spur for a number of years. I got a very close a couple of times when they were much less expensive than they are now. I think what made me not pull the trigger is that I like to change my cars often, and while they were beautiful, I did feel trading them in every couple of years was going to be very expensive, and I never really thought the difference was worth it. I do love tech, and that also never seemed to be as good as MB and BMW. Yes, they did seem to take the car to the next level, but never enough for me to pull the trigger. I can tell you that the new 7 is closer to that level than any car ever before at the MB and BMW level. The one comment that I consistently get on my 7 is that people are comparing it to the RR and Bentleys of the world and never really mention the MB in those conversations.
Now that the Flying Spur has gotten so much more expensive, I don't even really look lately, and the older I get, it just doesn't really matter that much.
The one time I decided to go to the next level to kinda get that feeling and see what it was all about, I had a custom hand made Vanquish S produced for me, and had it taken off the production line and taken to the airport and put on a 747, so the car was delivered the next morning. That was quite the experience, but in the end, after the initial excitement of it all, it really wasn't worth it. It also, at least for me, became a hastle because given the cost, I could never valet it. Now I spend the extra time to look for a good parking space so no one will ding my BMW. The Vanquish S was almost impossible to find a space that was safe enough given the cost, my neurotic behaviors and that fact that once it gets hit, that is usually the time for a new one. My age has mellowed that behavior, I am sure you understand what I mean.

I’m looking forward to test driving the 7 and the Spur. Your insight is very much appreciated.
When the name was first revived, it went after Rolls Royce and Bentley directly with the 57 and 62, which made a much more visual distinction from the S-Class. But, they did not sell well enough.
Now, MB seems to want to link Maybach more with the S-Class. Besides the badges, the most significant exterior visual sign that the car being a Maybach is its two-tone paint. Without this, it will be very subtle as to not getting attention.
I suppose the aligning the Maybach with the S-Class is meant to target more the existing S-Class owners?
