Recent S580 Order Missing D9U, What Is That?

Hello. My parents have a 2022 S580 build that is expected to be at the port on 6/12. I got a copy of the build sheet and it has 2 credits, one for $100 and the other for $2,290. The $100 credit I was told was the ashtray but for the $2,290 credit my guy does not know what credit/option is for. Anyone have any insight on what that missing option is? The code is D9U "Credit for Missing Standard Napp CREDITer".

Also the 4.5 degree rear axle steering is unavailable as well as it was removed from the build sheet.

It's a credit for the Nappa leather upholstery. Nappa Leather and Exclusive Nappa Leather were removed from ordering, and I guess they didn't have any for your parent's order.
It will have been downgraded to one of the standard leather options.

That must be so frustrating; how can they downgrade the leather on the 580? Whats the excuse now because its obviously not a chip shortage issue here.

I believe the leather may have been sourced from Ukraine.

I would hate to be a Mercedes dealership to have to try to convince its S Class buyers that the Nappa and the Exclusive leather upholstery is no big deal.

Thats the problem with receiving delivery of a car right now or ordering one...you just don't know which options youre ultimately going to get. My dealer was very honest with me when I was thinking of ordering the S580 several months back. He told me to wait for something that comes into inventory then make the decision as to whether I wanted it. Luckily the spec I was looking for showed up in inventory. While it has more options than I wanted it still had the key requirements for me such as the Exclusive Nappa Leather, 4.5 degree steering, multi contour and dynamic message seats. The options I didn't care for were in the back seats...but I paid up for those unwanted options to get the certainty of what I wanted.
I got lucky...so sorry to hear about your parents car not having the options they wanted. Depending on the dealership...can they get them something out of inventory that has what they want and not take delivery of this unit??

I told my dad about it and he was definitely disappointed and we have not broke the news to my mom yet (it would ultimately be her car). It is making us think if it is even worth it right now to spend 130K on a new S580 and it comes with the leather seats found in a GLC or something, and on top of that they are selling at MSRP. Luckily our deposit is refundable so we will see when the actual car comes in. I know they really wanted the diamond pattern throughout the car but with the standard leather who knows if it will actually have that too.

I would put another order in, or see if your dealer can get another similar spec in inventory. Napa Leather is 100% worth it.

I’m curious as to this ashtray! What’s the D__ code? Most recent built cars are missing the kick to open trunk, code D9B, called hands free access.

It is D9B "Credit for Missing Standard: 871 CREDIT". My guy said it was for "ashtray disposal" not really sure what that means.

I'm worried if we put another order in the same thing will end up happening. Also the standard interior looks so plain jane boring. It also looks like the standard interior does not have perforated seats according to the photos, so I wonder how the ventilated seats will work.

standard leather is perforated, in fact in a really nice waterfall pattern. Shoes up well on sienna and macchiato interiors.

871 is (I’m pretty sure) the code for hands free access. So it looks like your car is missing the kick to open trunk. I think your salesman was misinformed.

No, that is for the missing standard HANDS-FREE ACCESS feature.

Good to know, thank you.

For the standard interior I had that in my S500 loaner back in February. I know they were not a huge fan of those seats and the design of them too. For the kick-to-open trunk I know my mother was never able to get it to work on her prior 2015 S550 so I have a feeling they won't care about that as much.

Unfortunately putting in an order these days guarantees nothing. You won’t know what’s missing until delivery (just like what you’re going through now). Look around, like Streamliner did, do a national search, and be willing to compromise a bit to get your “must have”options. Good luck!!

As I have noted several times, there are elements of my 2022 S580 that I am not thrilled with. The Exclusive Nappa interior is certainly NOT one of them. It is absolutely spectacular in appearance and the layout & features are growing on me. I have always thought that the top line interior options MB has offered are true bargains in the luxury automotive world and have had them in all my S Class sedans, but this one really is opulent and a “must have” option, at least for me. If the interior is really important to you as well, there is no way you should accept an ordered car that comes in without your specified interior option. Full disclosure: The first four photos I lifted from the MB site. The last photo is my car.

Best bet is to search nationally and you'll definitely find something. I was purchasing a 2022 with a really nice amount of options and on the day to collect the car I realized when looking at pics the night before it was missing the active ambient lighting, for 146k its something i really wanted. This dealership was about 10 minutes from me in Brooklyn so would have been very convenient, anyways in the long run I found almost the same car in California however it had around 14k more in options, EABC and 4D Baumeister. While I wasn't really looking for either of those 2 I said what the hell and grabbed it.. I can tell it is pretty difficult as every single car I looked at was missing something, even mine is missing the air balance and easy access trunk kick thingy. The air balance I actually really wanted as I use it constantly in my 750 and love it. I can tell you where I purchased my car they have almost 40 S classes on the lot

I have a deposit at FJ, what led me there was that they were the largest, speaking of I need to cancel that deposit now lol. I wound up at South Bay Mercedes not too far from them, Cordell McDonald helped me out and was excellent. The first guy I spoke to told me he could sell the car, then he couldn't, then he could but wanted me to fly down there from NY. Luckily this guy went on vacation for a few days and Cordell took over and made everything happen. They have a really nice amount of S classes there, there selling for MSRP, and there very easy to work with. I did everything over the net and they sent a notary to my house to sign and notarize all the contracts. Was really a super easy process. The only thing that kind of aggravated me is having to pay 3k to ship the car in an enclosed trailer from CA to NY.

Salesman gave me 2 at delivery. pretty sure they're designed to fit in front cupholder (at least one). As ashtrays go they're not bad, but if I could sell them for $100…

Thank you!

We are still waiting for the car to arrive. Last update I heard was that it is supposed to arrive at the port on the 12th but who knows.
