Allocations / build timeline

Has anyone heard of when allocations will start to be released or when they will open ordering?

Being a 2024 model in the North American market, it is possible opens in late spring to early summer or later. Forum member Eaton will share with us a DOG when it is available for ordering.

Mercedes should spend the time to test these cars right.

I think they've already spent a lot of time on this model considering how long it took to come out over the base model.

There is nothing to figure out technically. Not sure why you are making to general statements without any context. Do you have a point to make?

That they are taking the time to test the cars? No I don't have a reference... that's just my guess.

I mean, I do have this video dated 7 months ago showing the vehicle at the nurburgring with aerodynamic camouflage:

I guess it is unlike anything that came before it, for example W221 to W222 was less complicated to say W222 to W223 (now there is hybridization, stricter emission controls and all sorts of stuff, plus the chip shortage or stuff that although improving is still a thing. The S 63 E Performance has big shoes to fill being the last V8 S-Class (I think, hopefully not) There is also MB's EQ line and it seems like they are focusing their development on that more, unfortunately. It is not just the S 63 E Performance that got delayed, the W206 C 43 and W206 C 63 S E Performance too got delayed, the reveal for both vehicles were pushed back numerous times leading to a year or even more delay. The release is therefore delayed as well. The new W214 E-Class reveal keeps on getting delayed, etc. Everything is pushed back.

I don't recall that there is any difference between the AMG GT63 ePerformance and the new S63 ePerformance other than the GT model has more power and that car has been for sale for a while...The C-Class is obviously based on a 4 banger which makes that a completely new setup

Hmmm, thanks for this information. I guess then it comes down too they don't want to mess up the S-Class, did it take long for the GT 63 S E Performance from development (first spotted) to reveal to available for ordering to finally being delivered?

In reference to the post it makes it sound that the car is somewhat not ready, which isn't the case. The car is available just like other models elsewhere and can be purchased already for several months. MBUSA simply hasn't set a date for the US or figured out the pricing.
In Germany there is 21k Euro difference (including 19% VAT), so this could be a $17K difference here it using the same pricing.

The main development activities were done for the AMG GT 4 door models some time ago and the car is in production.
I can’t speak to specific development tasks for the S-class but assume that much of the work relates to packaging for the MRAII platform and weight rather than actual tech. Same for the new SL...

The new S-Class is lower powered than the AMG GT 4 door. The weight of that car is obscenely heavy at nearly 5400lbs (if memory serves) and hopefully the new S-class will be a bit lighter.

I know I'm chiming in on the conversation rather late but my big question is will the new S63 be a mid-cycle refresh styling model? I would hate to buy a 2024 S63 just to then see a cosmetic refresh in 2025.

Hopefully but given the sizeable increase for the C 63 S E Performance as well, I am not holding my hopes up.

Recent previous generations of S-class follow a 7-year cycle. However, if 223 is indeed the last ICE S-Class, then it may last longer than the usual 7-8 year cycle. Say, 10-year?

From all the spy pics and videos I have seen, it seems the test vehicle of S63 still has the current design look.

My speculation is, the S63 will come out with the current design. However, it will not get the facelift on the following model year. It will carry on for a couple more years as I suspect 223 will have a longer-than-usual 7-year cycle.

MB has already walked back the "all EV" thing and now it's all EV except where market conditions and buyer expectations prevent it. That's of course leaving out the fact that they have no roadmap toward a supply chain that would allow them to build all those EV cars within their timeline.

I wouldn't be surprised to see another ICE offering in a next gen S Class, I don't actually think it will happen, but it wouldn't surprise me.

FWIW, the European Union officially banned cars with ICE/Diesel engines from 2035…
