What’s my car worth?
As many of you know, I have not been happy with my 2022 S580. I’ve determined that there really isn’t anything wrong with it, it's just too tech heavy for this old guy. So, I’m thinking of putting it on the market. If I do, what do we think it might be worth? I know the canned answers such as “whatever someone is willing to pay for it,” and “whatever the market will bear,” but what are your thoughts?
The car is a loaded, Executive Line, with an original MSRP of $153,730.00 and has about 3,500 miles on it. There is not one nick, never smoked in, no pets, as new. Here are the pertinent details:

If you really want to get rid of it, and keeping in mind 2023’s will be coming out soon I would take 10% off what you paid and stay firm on the price…no negotiation, no tire kickers.
My local dealer has two 2022’s in stock pretty loaded(I’m in Canada) and I’ve noticed a bit of a price uptick in the last few months…approximately 3-5% because of the obvious supply chain issues/inflation and wait for the 23’s. They have been on the dealers lot for several months.
I however think that with interest rates continuing there dramatic increase and most of these cars being leased or financed, I do believe demand will decrease and you don’t want to miss the window of selling. Just my 2 cents worth, cut the chord as I think this car has caused you enough frustration and grief!!
You can go to MBUSA website and check the 'Certified Pre-Owned Inventory' with the proper filters as close to your car as possible.
Eg, I used ''2022, S-Class, S580 4Matic, All price, Less than 5,000 miles'' as filters and it returns about 23 vehicles all over the US, price ranges from lowest $119,400 to highest $163,000. I suspect the large price differential reflects what optional packages are included with each car.
You might want to check out the details of each car and find out a few with the same/similar optional packages as yours and use those prices as your starting references, giving priority to those located in Southern CA.
It is close to a new car,I would check the KBB and NADA values and price it somewhere in between....I would also check the Autotrader but you're aware that all these options when you sell a "used" car are not worth too much, based on the curent market conditions you may get a little bit more but not too much....
I would also check Carvana, they offered me a price I couldn't resist for my A8, apparently they're not offering too much right now.
You mentioned in a previous note that if you would sell it to a dealer you would loose something like $30,000, so, anything less that that would probably be ok, but in the end the real value is “whatever someone is willing to pay for it "

I don’t know your market nor the available inventory. The car is over optioned and would have an appeal to someone with significant disposable income (on the higher end of the standard “S” owner). However, those who can and would shell out for all options, would be more inclined to purchase a new car, but only if readily available. Moreover, there are great options you have that might not be on everyone’s list, thus further narrowing your market. So, the available inventory and lead times on new cars are important factors. My guess, would put the car in the $130-135 range. If you happen to hit someone who really wants what you have, for example, the 10 Deg rear axels, you will get more. What are you going to replace it with?
Hmm, you bought a tech heavy car with a bunch of options and now you want to sell it because it is too tech heavy?
In that price range most buyers would probably buy brand new instead of slightly used to save a few shekels.
Just curious, what will your next car be, a Lexus?
(I can imagine they are more user friendly, the MBs can be a pain in the rear with the tech: I have to watch a bunch of uTube videos to program my
E-450 for normal driving)
Hard to know, the current market is a bit tricky to gauge, and seems like used car pricing is on a decline finally. Do you plan on selling to a dealer? Or private sale? I know you said there were some lease requirements that have to be followed if selling. Also your particular taste will also likely affect resale value. For S-Classes, silver, smaller wheels, and non AMG-Line styling are deterrents on the used market and less desirable.
That is a beautiful automobile and I don’t know if I’ve every seen a better optioned S 580. So sorry that you cannot find happiness with it. The local dealers are pricing my 21’s CPO’s for $110K - $115K. Without near the options on your automobile. Have not seen any my 22’s CPO’s here so not sure about $. May I ask if you plan on trading up with a dealer or selling to private buyer?? As said earlier my 23’s are on their way. I’ll guess $120K max. Best of luck with selling your S580.

I had a similar situation. My 2022 S580 stickered at $137,930. Plus about $500 in fees and $10,000 in sales tax = $148,000. A couple weeks after delivery (roughly April 2022) I decided that I didn't like it and explored a sale (with <1000 miles). The selling dealer offered me $130,000. One important thing that I hadn't thought about: I would need to buy another car. If I used my 580 as a trade in-- even to a different dealer for a different brand-- I would avoid paying most of the sales tax again (as opposed to selling it to a 3rd party). So my net "loss" would be about $8000, not $18,000. This is true in my state--Illinois-- not sure if it works that way in others.
Ultimately I decided to keep the car. I'm getting used to it, but I still haven't figured out or don't use about 1/3 of the technology features. And the smaller trunk and smaller gas tank (vs my 2008 S550) still bug me.

@Streamliner how many cars have you returned or sold after very short ownership in the past couple of years? What are you really looking for? Isn't a Flying Spur really the answer for you? Flashiness as an objection doesn't hold water.

Not your bag, but I'm in line for the new VW ID.4(ev) micro bus Due in 2024. It'll be my wife's DD and I'll still have my CLS (I hope). I'm very interested to see what happens the next few years in terms of EV's and what will be the next 'trend'. My CLS needs to stop being my DD if I want it to be in good shape in 2050

I'm guessing the drive is pretty nice, but the exterior as well as the interior are a total bore. I'm also guessing it has a nice finish on the interior......but gad damn that ipad!!
