Anyone have a W223 without Heads Up Display?

I’m curious: If you don’t order the $3,000.00 Technology Pkg., I assume that no Heads Up Display feature is included. If there is no HUD, does the car still have that huge cavity behind the gauge cluster? I know that on the W222’s, if no HUD was ordered, the dash did not have the cavity.

Thanks. I assume that you have actually seen a 223 without the cavity?

Correct, I test drove one that did not have it. It's just flat back there; looks exactly like you would imagine.

Edit: You can see it in the configurator with/without.

Thanks again. I have the Technology Pkg. in my 2022 S580 and frankly, I’m not all that impressed. As I think about replacing the car, I don’t know that I would opt for the Tech Pkg again and was looking for another reason to NOT order it. A nice, flat, upper dash is an attractive feature to me.

So…., is the HUD the one that aggravates you by telling you to adjust your seat/wheel position?

My first S580 had it…. The display was nice…but I had to replace my prescription sunglasses with non polarized sun glasses. And separately, the cameras on the driver (part of the tech package) kept sending large warnings to the driver’s instrument cluster. It decided that my seat was positioned too high and the steering column was too low. There was no way to set it up without the cameras. I tried.

This is out of the 2023 Dealer Ordering Guide:

Honestly, I just see no reason for me to order this thing again.

I think the driver facing cameras in the dash you are mentioning are standard if you have the driver assistance package. These camera's associated infrared illuminating LED lights are visibly flickering in most review videos due to the shutter speed of the video camera the person is recording the video with. The cameras basically look straight into your eyes & soul

I thought that the red leds line you up for the 3D instrument panel. But I’m not sure. 😎

Streamliner, I’m just trying to keep up with your thinking. Quite recently you were talking about getting rid of your S580 for a myriad of reasons and replacing it with possible cars including the Genesis 90…or the Bentley Flying Spur?
Are you now thinking about replacing your basically brand new S580 with another S580 but without some of the options such as the technology package??

The pictures definitely show the reflective glare from air vents and some type of vent on top of the dash.

MSS63AMG:

The reflections are one aspect of the quirks of the car….of which there are many. The S is the gold standard. Worth putting up with, IMO.

The voice of experience: It’s the gimmicky 3D thing that’s part of the HUD pkg which includes the cameras on the driver! Deactivating any of it does not put an end to the full size non ending messages and buzzes coming from the driver’s side instrument cluster….about my seat position. BTW, I’m 5’9” 180 lbs. Glad to have it gone in my S500 and happy to reclaim the real estate on top of the dash. More open and less cluttered.

I’ve had some sort of reflection in every car I’ve owned regardless of brand pretty much. It really doesn’t both me.

How is the inline 6 with fan noise after shut off? Does it have any?
Dash looks great btw without the HUD.

i find the HUD extremely useful...in fact, every time i drive. more so with the nav...i end up using the small directional icons on the HUD more than the driver and/or main display....not to mention the cool AR blue arrows.
the only thing i find odd is that they didn't add a clock on the HUD. it'll show the ETA for nav destination, but not present time...unfortunate, as that would be highly useful. wonder if software upgrades would be able to add that, or if the graphic elements are hard-coded into the boards.

aypues: Nope…it’s the 15, headed South into San Diego coming from the Desert.

I only have my S500 for 650 miles…have not heard any engine fans after shut down….and I’m pretty detail oriented. 1/2 the time it resides in a garage that sits at 100+ degrees, until recently. 90’s lately.

You can order just a "regular" HUD without the AR and I'm sure much cheaper.
Personally, I think the AR HUD is amazing and not just a gimmick!

It's just typical Streamliner, you get used to it Years ago he went on and on about how he would not get a 223, and here we are I get it though. It's hard to back away
from a brand you really love and have spent so much money with. Going with another car can feel disappointing when you're used to MB.
