Extended warranty on S class
Any thoughts regarding an extended warranty? How much, where to purchase, avg cost? Negotiable? I’ll be purchasing the car new and plan to keep 5-8 years as a daily driver.

I would stick with the manufacturer extended warranty. I never go out so I can't comment from experience but I have noted that you see less complaints with the OEM extended warranty on the forums compared to the various aftermarket vendors.

MB gives a new car a warranty of 4 years/50,000 miles since day of purchase in the US market. You can buy MB extended warranty, from the dealer (ask them for details) at that time when you purchase the new car. But, I suggest not because MBUSA allows you to buy when the new car warranty is still in place. This means, you have 4 years/50,000 miles to get to know the car. No rush here. You have all the time in the world to ponder on the purchase of a MB extended warranty. In addition, instead of handlng over the money to them so early, better keep it with you until the 'last moment' to earn the interest, at the very least.

I believe there is a benefit to purchase the extended warranty within the first 30 days after delivery. Some sort of price increase by MB, maybe 15%.
In addition, the extended warranty can be cancelled prior to the date coverage begins for a refund. Check with your dealer.

Local dealers often have their own discount package.
Mine offered 35% discount if one buys within the first year of new car ownership.

I believe the 15% discount usually applies within the first 30 days of purchase. They will always say that the price will increase so you are better off buying sooner than later. Different dealers offer better deals so it definitely pays to call around (anywhere in the nation). I received a referral for someone out of state which saved me about $400 in the past. I have refunded twice, once for 100% as I didn't enter the extended period and the other time prorated and the calculation was fair. If you certain you will keep it 5-8yrs as a daily I would just do it now. If you change your mind within 4yrs 50k you get 100% back, though you have lost your potential interest. If credit card points are something you care about, you are better off doing it shortly after purchase and putting it on a card (assuming you hit your max the dealer would allow on the card at purchase of the car).

So it seems best to pass on it the day of purchase, call around to see if I can get a better deal (oem mercedes warranty), make my decision and use a credit card for points, potentially cancel if sold early. Very reasonable plan. The person who got 35% off, could you send me the dealer’s info? That seems like a great deal.

Regardless, check with all your local MB dealers and compare their offers. This is your best way.

Direct from Mercedes Benz Germany, they offer extended warranty. Keep in mind, it's only for Germany and the standard warranty here is only 2 years. I have to pay additional 895 euros (which is 50% off) to get 5 years total.

Extended Warranty
Keep in mind the extended warranty from MBUSA, no mater what it cost is only as good as what your local MB dealer and MBUSA will honor. I have had several problems with MB dealers and the extended warranty I purchased from MB. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy a warranty from a third party.

Just watched Movie Soldier of Fortune (1955) with Clark Gable that started and ended with view of the Harbor from the Peak Tram. Too bad speed limits are so low...those curves look enticing going up the mountain.

How many miles have you put on your S-Class sedans annually over the years?

Probably closer to 5k km per year in the past couple years as we stayed home a lot due to covid.
So, as far as maintenance is concerned, I almost always go with the time rather with the mileage, in the past.
PS Found the movie in YT and watched the beginning and ending 5 minutes. Good stuff!
