If the buyback goes thru, please post the VIN so any future buyer might Google it and see this journey of a thread and know a little more about the history of it before their purchase.

Excellent idea! I believe I posted somewhere that a few months after the repurchase of my 2020 S560, I saw that car for sale online from a non-MB dealer near Atlanta. I corresponded with them and was told the car still had the balance of the original factory warranty in force. If that was the case, then I wonder if the next buyer, if unhappy with the rough shifting transmission, could obtain another buy-back from MBUSA?

Yes, two in a row! I’ve had 17 new MB’s and these were the only two with any sort of serious problems.

I know you also said you’re looking at the GV80, RX, X5, etc, but those seem to be in high demand, so expect less of a discount and maybe even the possibility of a custom order. My local Benz, BMW, and Lexus dealer pretty much have no SUV’s in stock and the lots are looking a bit more empty again, although things may be different in Cali.
I have been leasing, but may buy my next vehicle and pay cash, unless there are some great rates & terms out there.

I’ve mentioned this before, but everything considered, I cannot imagine any vehicle this side of a Bentley or Rolls being a better vehicle to cover long stretches of highway. My S580 is, without a doubt, “THE” most quiet vehicle I have ever ridden in. The ride quality at highway speeds is superb, if not quite as good as my MBC, 18” wheel equipped W222’s.

We are now up in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. If you haven’t been, the very quaint & picturesque town has rolling, uneven residential streets and the transmission performance as we drove these streets was dismal, disappointing and at times infuriating. So many times, as I would gently accelerate from a stop and then need to slow down again approaching a stop sign, the sloppiness of the shifting is just so noticeable. Slow down to make a turn, then accelerate up a hill and the transmission just seems “confused” as to what it should do. There are never any transmission issues at higher speeds, say above 45mph, but at low speeds, it’s just, plain bad.

Tomorrow, we will get back on Highway 101, heading for Santa Barbara. I look forward to being on the open road again.

Interesting. What did they offer you? Can you disclose it as a percent of the purchase price if you don’t feel comfortable stating a dollar value and how many miles on it?

I’ll post all that, once they actually take the car back.

Probably that ridiculous mild hybrid system they are shoving down our throats. A similar thing happened on my 7 series where I lost the power steering and lots of important electronics because my 3 year old mh battery was no longer taking a charge.

It finally happened. I have had 2 tires with significant bubbles with freeway driving already (21's). However, I just was driving on a freeway entrance and went over a pothole. Both my left tires dropped to zero immediately. I am currently having the car towed to the dealership. It has been a week wait to get tires previously. It is sad that I paid 150k for a car I don't trust driving.

GEEZE! And you live in California! I have not seen any serious potholes really anywhere in Southern California and just returned from a drive to Carmel and did not see any on that drive either.
What city do you live in?

Even with all the rain we've had this year in socal, potholes seem to have been repaired pretty quickly lately.

And we're supposed to trust these people despite the glaring conflict of interest? It's just insane.
Thanks for the link, I guess it is also true for mobile electronics and related products, don't people (reviewers in general) get early access to the products a few weeks or even a month before it is officially revealed to the general public? That is a good incentive enough for them to write a biased ("good") review that usually results in more pros of the products being talked about instead of cons or risk getting blacklisted by the OEM.

In L.A.—a city where I was born & raised, where I built my business, that I will rarely venture into anymore because of the lawlessness—they have this “road diet” program, where they have taken some busy, major thoroughfares and devoted one lane to busses only and another for bicycles only, turning the one remaining lane into a virtual “no man’s land” for other vehicles. Businesses on those streets have been decimated, all in the name of what some feel is just SO environmentally responsible.

I think I’m staying with an ICE vehicle for now, maybe a hybrid. The whole environmental movement is just moving too quickly and too haphazardly for me right now. I believe there are potentially massive, unintended consequences with all of these batteries being manufactured.
Yup, fully agree and I also found that article interesting when I first stumbled upon it. Only time will tell how and what EVs will lead to but I will too stick with either ICE or at most a hybrid for now. I too am about saving the planet as well... but something about these EVs seems more are profit/politics than anything that is remotely helpful to our beloved planet.

Definitely could not base our purchasing decisions on one or two reviews, will need to read reviews from multiple sources, watch reviews from multiple youtube channels and reserve judgement until we get to test drive them personally. Most of the so called "reviews" or reviewers for that matter nowadays are just an "external" marketing team for car companies.

2.. Above limit would apply to electric & hybrids as well. 800hp electric cars are not helping the planet. “Track Ready” cars should not be allowed to operate on public streets & highways.
3. Crack down on brake pads that produce dust in enormous amounts. Lexus vehicles make way less dust than German makes. It can & should be done.
4. The size & weight of passenger vehicles & especially light trucks should be reeled in. Every Toby Keith wannabe out there is using a lifted F350, with monster tires as his daily driver. It really has gotten way out of hand.
5. All gasoline powered mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, etc. should be banned in favor of rechargeable or plug-in electrics.
6. We should immediately restart our nuclear power plant industry. It is our absolute, very best shot at safe, clean, renewable energy. The waste can be safely dealt with.
7. We need a “Robert Moses” type transportation tsar to get mass transit projects done. The absolute folly that is the California High Speed Rail Authority, is a great idea, but NOT if every single decision needs to be litigated in court. For the greater good of the many, a few should be forced out of the way, properly compensated, of course. Robert Moses was hated, but he got the job done and billions of people have benefited over the decades. You can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

OH LORDY! Am I going to catch hell now!
1. Fully agree, but then we would also have to debate about all these pickup trucks that has high consumption? and often used for purposes that was not originally designed for (ie. grocery getters)
2. Agree
3. Couldn't agree more but Germans get around by saying it helps with braking performance because it is softer... well... debate for another time
4. Speaking of light trucks, "pretty sure this will become a debate between "Real" of fake truck" but I think the Maverick is just good enough as well as the RAM Rampage. That is "if" you really need a truck, re: point 1, no one really use their truck for their intended purpose anymore, most buy pickups because they "can" and apparently it is a "status symbol" and so they "own the road"...
5. Ya this is a big one, you really don't need a gasoline lawn motor although people swear by the power it has over electric, electric ones are very capable nowadays. Back to commercial use, though, I want to add cargo trucks or basically lorries should be fully electric since those emit a lot of CO2. Then you can argue same for planes, trains etc.
6. Mhmm, better than using it for nuclear weapons at war ugh.
7. This might be a great start.

Technically I am not against or for SUVs but I have to say, that also brings us back to the point that if no one bought SUVs and pickup trucks we never really "need" an SUV to be able to see through traffic, sigh this (trend) also inevitably killed sedans I guess.

L.A., which I know about, is at a point where most law abiding citizens won’t ride public transportation, due to the dangers on the busses & trains that seem to be rampant and that go unchecked. Criminals that are apprehended are given a slap on the wrist and set free, so they turn around and keep offending, over & over. San Francisco, where they had some pretty decent public transportation, is rapidly becoming a failed city, with residents & businesses fleeing to the suburbs or leaving California entirely. Don’t even get me started on our virtually wide open borders where drugs & criminals flow into the country to perpetuate and exacerbate the already horrid situation.

We cannot even think about new mass transit systems, until we get our country on an even keel. When will the thugs figure out that folks stuck for extended periods of time at EV charging stations might be good targets?
Not much better here, people are getting pushed on to train tracks (thankfully no one was injured by a train yet), now they need security officers on board the train and then there is buses, public transit buses' drivers are getting harassed for no reason, again security officers need to be on board for that reason. Last but not least people were literally ignited on fire by strangers due to random hate. It is a dangerous world out there, stay safe everyone.
