I have a feeling the EQS will be a very here and now car, like most current EV’s. The design of the next S-Class EV will most likely (and hopefully) be more conventional as the battery tech and market changes. The EQS is definitely not attractive although I’ve grown to it, and wouldn’t be opposed to driving one as its one of the better EV’s on the market, especially in range. I’d probably opt for the SUV though, as it features a more traditional design thanks to its body shape.

I am typically a wagon lover but for some reason the Taycan Cross Turismo doesn’t do it for me. In person I found the proportions a bit off because the front is short and low, and the back is fat and wide, especially the rear D-pillar. Something off about it for me. The sedan to me is gorgeous though, but I didn’t care for the interior in terms of space, tech, or materials. The other big issue with Porsche wagons is they add very little practicality over the sedans, they’re more so shooting brakes with an extra cubic foot of cargo capacity.

Been saying it, the lack of a hatch across the line is a missed opportunity to improve an aspect of the car that needs improvement. Esthetically you've got a handsome sedan but it suffers from a fairly significant lack of utility in what is not a small car. You don't get too much of a bother up over the badly placed cupholder in your 911, that there really isn't much of anywhere to throw your random small crap (RSC) and it all ends up in the back seat isn't that big a deal, even the fact that the back seats aren't really back seats isn't a deal-breaker. You didn't buy the car for that and you forgive it. The Taycan doesn't get that forgiveness. The Panamera at least has a hatch, the rear seats fold down, and you can put adults in the back without discomfort. The Taycan that's, a no, a sorta no, and a no. While not as big as the Panny it's big enough you'd think you have a place for your RSC, but nah, not so much. The Panny is surprisingly low by the accounts of most who rode in mine but ingress/egress is otherwise easy. The Taycan, nope; you've got this funky B-pillar location, your leg will be running into the steering wheel, gotta keep your head ducked or you're going to get thumped while you're working your way in. Once you do get in there you can be excused if you wonder where in hell your 175k went because you're not going to see it in the materials.
Don't get me wrong because I liked the car but it's got practicality issues for daily grind duty. Once you're in there though, as long as you just need to drive, it's quite nice, excellent even. It's quiet for as much tire as you've got. Smooth. While stiff, Porsche does a masterful job of not punishing you. Handling is excellent for so much weight, which I didn't notice unless I pushed it. Something I seldom did because it didn't encourage hooliganism. Except in one way:Acceleration is ridiculous; something I couldn't resist proving over and over. Even if I didn't push it much I enjoyed the sense of precision; Porsche does that so well and I'm a fan of it. Not going to pretend otherwise.
I think it would make a great 4th car if you've already got a daily beater, a sports car, an SUV, it would fit into the group well. Maybe 5th if you need a truck. I suppose it could go higher in the order if you strictly need a commuter car which is probably it's best use case.

Yeah for me I have no interest in a hatch/sedan. I have a vehicle in the household that has that functionality. In a sedan I want a sedan.

I didn't mind the hatch in the Panameras at all. Made the car more useful and didn't otherwise hurt anything. Here it's impossible because of the rear seats so it's not a consideration anyway unless you want to nerf the limo capabilities and I wouldn't suggest that: If there is one thing I've learned about S-Class owners in my time here it's that you don't mess with their car! lol

Jumping back to the new 7 series, I was both pleasantly surprised and also terribly disappointed. I noticed the car's "scale" is much larger than the prior G12 BMW, though the exterior design is just...No. However, one thing I have not seen anyone mention are how extraordinarily comfortable the seats are. They are so plush yet still supportive. I found them to be more comfortable than the S580 I test drove. I, too, noticed how quiet it was in the cabin. Excellent fit and finish as well. Yet, most of the interior looked chintzy to me. The crystal controls did not bother me as much as the glowing dashboard. Obviously this car is supposed to appeal to a younger audience than its competitors, but I found the lighting to cheapen the interior drastically. I also hated the climate controls being integrated poorly into the screen. It seems as though BMW design takes 2 steps forward, then stumbles 3 steps back.

I can't tell whether that review was meant to be "grumpy" as a schtick, I think it was.

Hatch actually increases low frequency boom noise. Mercedes explained how they had to add all sorts of counter measures in the EQS to reduce it. They were successful in my opinion.
As for me, I’ve owned numerous EVs and at some point became allergic to the high frequency drivetrain noise. Already have tinnitus, don’t need to hear it from the car too!
Whether you can hear it depends on how “young” your ears are as well as the specific car. BMW and Mercedes seem to be the best here by far, and improving on reducing those noises over time with new dampening materials and inverter technology. Till then, loving my V8!

I don't like the crystal but that's still a push because I've never met a fake plastic piano black I liked either.

Because if there is one thing S-Class owners wanted, it was for their car to look like a Honda Civic!
0.01 in drag isn't worth it. Lucid, Porsche, and BMW agreed.. the EQs are just baffling.
