Yay for real buttons. But what the f*ck? A yoke? Seriously? Took Tesla long enough to admit that maybe not everyone likes a yoke and they now offer the S and X with the round wheel. This is just more stupid decision making coming from HQ. When will they start listening to their actual consumers and not what trends THEY think are popular, when in reality no one asked for a damn rectangular steering wheel.

What really scares me is their plan to introduce steer-by-wire. God no. I don’t want my ability to steer a 2-ton car be at the whims of an electrical glitch. What a big mistake. These cars are crawling with electrical gremlins and one false move because the steering malfunctioned for a split second is all it takes. And if the battery dies while driving, can’t steer.

Reminds me of when Infiniti tried it in the Q50. It was a mess, horrible to use and they received a lot of flack for it. Glad to see the execs at MB HQ have the combined IQ of a shovel.

But seriously will they ever bother to focus on the real issues plaguing the brand? Or will they just continue to solve problems that don’t exist, which in turn create new problems that they never end up addressing. But hey at least they’re addressing the capacitive touch button problem, not for the facelift cars (that would be too easy and would make too much sense), no instead they’ll make us wait until the next generation.

Yeah the capacitive touch controls are terrible. VW’s boss came out and said as much in a recent interview and said they are going back to real buttons across their entire line from VW to Porsche.

Yeah, I forgot about the Infiniti. This change is totally unnecessary. It’s like changing just for the sake of change.

A knob for the volume would be awesome. The capacitive control is infuriating.

Let’s hope they are actually looking at the responses from people and will take that into consideration and hopefully NOT go down this route.

There's an entire generation of cars, from about 2020-2026 or so, that many people will probably skip because of the lack of physical buttons, across all automakers.

Next S isn't coming for some time, so for now I'll take these rumors as they are, just rumors.

Looks funny, seems like a novelty that would wear off quickly.

Early autos were steered with tillers - I suspect the firs steering wheels looked funny back then, too, don't you?

The new Lexus yoke got a few positive reviews but mostly extremely negative reviews. I REALLY REALLY hope MB doesn't follow in Lexus's footsteps

I actually don’t mind the “yoke” provided it has a top bar or a solid bar around the complete circumference, as shown in that photo. I don’t like Tesla’s or Lexus’ take, that mimics an airplane.

The one benefit to these yokes is that you have a much better unobstructed view of the instrument cluster. However, I would still choose a traditional steering wheel.

Buttons! Wow what an amazing new idea!

I still cannot comprehend how anybody thought touch controls were a good idea. Its like people who make cars have never actually driven one.

Oh but now I guess it will take them another 10 years to figure out no one wanted a yoke.

Mercedes has traditionally been so wonderfully conservative, even as they innovate. I wish they'd stick with that. Build something once, perfect it, and use it for the next 30 years.

It seems Mercedes is throwing that idea out of the window, but I'd have to drive/work on one of these w223 cars to make that judgement call.
