MANUFAKTUR Natural Grain Walnut wood with Aluminum Lines
I just got a used 2023 S580 AMG line black on black loaded...absolutely beautiful. I was told before I went to see the car that it had the dark poplar dash trim, but it turns out is had the MANUFAKTUR Natural Grain Walnut wood with Aluminum Lines. That is a significant upgrade I got as sort of a freebie, but I really am not a fan of that trim on a black car - it looks outstanding on a macchiato interior. I was gonna pass, but the price of the car was too good to let it go, so I got the car.
I know this will sound sacrilegious, but is there any way to darken that walnut wood to make it closer the anthracite color? I do not want to ruin anything, but would love to have had the darker trim, even the anthracite. This walnut is a bit light for an all-black car.
Any suggestions?
I understand Black on Black is a personal taste, but to me this is a boring as it gets. Been there and am over it. I think the wood trim with aluminum is the nicest trim MB has to offer and looks great with the black to give it some point of interest. Plus you don't get the reflection of the glossy trim.
Since the wood is a veneer and the surface has the open pore look aka unevenness but is still lacquered, a proper refinish may not be easy.
Expect a few thousand to replace it, if desired. I would leave it as-is
I would not mess with it. Looks beautiful and gives a contrast to the all black interior. The black flowing lines trim is not bad though if you could source it somehow.
From someone who has the black lacquer with flowing lines as optioned in my car (see post below), I would gladly take your dash over mine. I have a black interior too, but with Cirrus silver exterior. I understand your preference for not having the wood trim in your car, but in my opinion, your dash looks 100 times better than what I have.
Being a subjective I guess it's in the eye of the beholder. I would think a swap as suggested above is probably your best bet, as it seems likely a forum member would bite on a trade.
Give yourself some time to get used to it. I don’t see how you could accomplish that have have it turn out well, and if it didn’t you’re several thousands of dollars in to replace it.
I've got good news for you apparently there's now a new variant for the Z223, called 'maybach night series', which is really just a regular Z223 with some additional blacked trims... but one of those blacked trims happen to be exactly what you are after. See the illustration below, and this video:
Since all front carbin parts for Z223 and W223 are interchangeable, you should be able to order these trims from the new maybach night series, and replace the ones in your regular s class.
Expect the prices to be very pricey if they are available to order (best guess $5k as separate kit). Love the herring bone design. Check with Mercteil from Germany.
Here is a flowing line kit from Germany in case that interests you: https://mercteil.com/s-class-black-p...retrofit-rZBNr
You will be able to sell your kit for good money here but I wouldn't expect any member to do a swap. There is a bit of disassembly involved; a pro should do this.
