Unhappy W223 s580 - motion sensor when driving solo turning overhead light on

I'm 6'5" and have long arms so my right arm rests on the passenger side of the center console and triggers the motion sensor pretty often and turns the overhead light on. It's driving me nuts, completely ruins the ambiance/enjoyment, especially at night. I've looked at settings everywhere and can't find a way to stop it.

Anyone know of a solution?

If I remember right, you're going to find the interior assistant options in the system portion of the main settings. You can disable all or parts of it as you see fit.

So I went out and looked closely, every single setting, and can't find it. I've attached screenshots. No such option exists in my menu. '22 s580.

https://www.dom.daimler.com/X243/X05...arbe-en_gb.mp4
I have a feeling the menu is located in different menus because the video above shows MBUX 1.0 (NTG 6) while the W223 has MBUX 2.0 (NTG 7, myMBUX)
I assume under System > Intelligent Assistance > More Settings, it isn't there either?

Correct, it is not under System > Intelligent Assistance > More Settings. I very carefully triple checked every setting menu in Settings and every sub menu twice, once a few weeks ago when I first bought it and once tonight after your first reply. It's either in a swipe up/down I'm not seeing/realizing or it's not a setting, and it is genuinely bothering me to the point where I need to find or force a solution.

Yeah the video (NTG 6) is definitely not what I have, I'm assuming then that I have the NTG 7.

Yes you are correct that you have NTG 7.

Here is another video that might help you: https://dom.corpinter.net/W223/X05.9...high-en_gb.mp4

Sadly, it does show the options are in those menus of which you weren't able to find, will be strange if MBUSA made it mandatory to have on.

Again, setting/system/intelligent assistance, this time try scrolling down.

A couple posts ninja'ed me while I went out to the garage to verify. It's there, scroll down, you'll see them.

FIXED!! WOOOOOOOT!!! In my defense, can we talk about how BAD the UX is to put "More Settings" in the MIDDLE of the menu?!?! That's what had me not even trying to scroll down the 2 times I looked hard for this setting! Also, I would LOVE your parsed settings (motion sensor lights on in the rear would be GREAT but not the front). Looks like the '22 only gets on/off, you get areas of on/off.

My plan, IF I find this worth it (this is my first lifestyle purchase in my life, I grew up hard), is to buy a w224, but I'm wondering based on the clear improvements between mine and yours, if I should wait a year or two? Or accept that I'll want to trade in/up every few years on the w224. Technology is advancing so fast right now, and I really appreciate it (LOVE my HUD, etc.)

Mine is the executive model so I have it front and back and they can be enabled/disabled separately. If Im remembering it right, in the US, you can't get the intelligent assistant in the back without executive.

The MBUX is actually pretty good when you become familiar with it. There are a number of menus that scroll and the side indicator is easily missed so it's something you have to pay attention to when you're on a menu dive. IMO it should be better telegraphed.

Congrats on the new ride!

That happened to me multiple times on an extended test drive of the W223 on Saturday. It was pouring and I opened the sunroof multiple times with gestures and turned on the driver's overhead light. Aggravating. I saw the gesture setting was disabled for both driver and passenger but in playing with the settings and being ignorant to how much of MBUX works, I must've enabled them somewhere.

I know it is fixable, but should I pull the trigger, I will be far more competent as I will have time to become acquainted with the controls and features.

Glad you resolved it.

One thing to keep in mind with this car is that saving can be a little tricky. The failsafe is to make whatever changes you make and then be sure and save on the door before you get out of the car. Go ahead and lock it and get the key far enough away that you'll get a complete shutdown or drop it in a cage. You'll want to do the latter anyway, which would be the gist of several threads that aren't this one. In any event what you run into is that the defaults can be changed (on is the default for the interior assistant) but if you don't save your changes it reverts to the default after a power cycle. Not everything every time, some things, sometimes. So yeah, save on the door every time you make a change.

How do I save on the door? :sweat smile:

You just use your memory button on the door, press M, press your memory location. No one is sure why that helps the MBUX remember what it's already supposed to be remembering but it somehow seems to help it over the hump.

Good job of finding it, I wouldn't had thought of scrolling down too myself, if I would I would had suggested it, thanks forum member crabman for chiming in.

The W224 will likely be the S-Class EV, not the EQS but a true S-Class EV and named the S-Class, if you are into electric then that is the way to go.

Oh no I strongly prefer fuel based and the S580 is just my speed in terms of quality versus ostentatious (it's really amazing inside while still looking understated outside imo) Based on @crabman 's comments about the Executive Package, I'm definitely planning on that. Are you sure there wont be a new technology upgrade in the next couple of years on the S class side? Maybe W225?

I see, sorry about that : ( I guess you should get the current gen facelift, which should come out as MY25? and then keep it for longer until something impresses you, would always recommend waiting for the 2nd (at least) or 3rd model year of a new generation to hopefully allow them to iron out some bugs.

sorry, what is "MY25"? Is that the model coming out in 2025? and by 2nd or 3rd generation, do you mean wait until 2027 or 2028?

So now it wont save the setting changes. I'm logged in. I've tried to save (I think?). If I turn the vehicle on at night, it basically resets this setting. I'm super confused about how the software is so ****ty on a vehicle this expensive?!?

This is still happening. I absolutely love this car aside from this one issue and it's a serious annoyance to me. :/

Sorry to hear about it, does resetting the profile and/or creating a new profile does anything?
