Touch-up paint: small rock chip

I got small but noticeable rock chip right near the hood emblem that took it down to bare metal. Do Mercedes dealerships sell touch-up paint? Is it sacrilege to even discuss trying to apply it lol? Also, anyone have any tips on the best way to use it?

if you mean Graphite grey metallic then it's 831 color code. You car should have it on the door sticker or elsewhere.

When I search by vehicle, it lists graphite grey pearl as 831. Same thing?

Does Mercedes sell touch-up paint? I assume they do. Does anyone have any experience with any of these products? Is the Mercedes paint a better match?

They do, but I would just get it from one of these sources. I have always used AutomotiveTouchup.com

Get it from the dealership! I’m telling you, it’s easier than to guess and so what it costs a little bit more. There’s a YouTube video on how to apply it with a toothpick to fill the chip, it works perfectly!

I have the same color car.

I'm with you on going to the dealer for some items; touch up paint is one of them. Give them the last eight digits of your VIN and there's no guess work. But the dealer is sometime WAY overpriced on some larger items. For example, I needed to replace the windshield wipers on my S580, but the dealer wanted an exuberant amount of money for them. I called the dealer, provided the last 8 digits of my VIN, asked for the part number for the wiper blades, then did a quick Google search and found them elsewhere much cheaper. Took the guess work out of the process.

I’m with you on the blades! $187.00 was what they charged me. I believe it’s due to the technical design, and because of that I’m hesitant to try third party did you have any luck with third party?

Yeah I have my first service appointment in a week and I’ll probably get OEM stuff. I also got a few detailing paint applicators (the size of a toothpick) for application. The only nice thing about some of the aftermarket ones are the “blending” components, although I have no idea if they do anything.

Here's the part number for the wipers: 223-824-02-00-64. I was able to locate them for $136.00 for the pair. They retail for $170.00. Not much of a savings, but any savings at that price helps I suppose. A quick Google search just now finds them in the $120 range.

After replacing them, my buddy suggested replacing the actual rubber blades next time rather than the entire mechanism. That might be a better option for you.

My apologies for taking this thread down the rabbit hole. I know this has nothing to do with touchup paint. :-/

There are no third party wiper blades, only MB blades. Somebody in China makes some you can get off AliExpress, but nothing you can buy stateside. You can find the MB OEM blades cheaper online, as you can all parts.

This is not possible with these blades.

I’m a big fan of dr color chip. Considered the industry standard among car collectors. Easy to learn and use. Great results.

I would not hesitate to touch up a daily driver vehicle. In most all cases, the touch up will look much better than the nick. Unless someone goes the expensive “clear bra” route, which to me is nuts on a leased car—paint chips will occur. We hate them, but that’s life, especially with so many monster pickups on the road with tires sticking out way beyond the fenders. It’s supposed to be against the law, but when laws are not enforced—as in my idiotic state—virtually anything goes on California roads these days.
