I went into the dealer recently and asked for $25k off and the sales guy looked dumbfounded. His manager then came in and said my numbers were too far off and said that the max they could ever do was $12-13k off. I told him that I was quoted $25k off in December for a 2023 model which was really true. He noted that it was likely combined with the AMEX discount at the time which was between $10-11k off. However there is no AMEx discount on the 2024 s580s at this time as I write this. Iam kicking myself for not pulling the trigger in Dec but I was new to the buying game and was 2nd guessing it.

so for now I am going to hang tight for a bit to see if any new rebates come out. And given the possible refresh in 2025 I imagine that may create some downward pricing for the 24s. I can be totally wrong but I at this point I can wait and see since I already missed the big discounts in Dec.

Back in Sep 2023 when I purchased my MY23, i used a 10,500 rebate from Mercedes Benz Car Club of America. I am a member. The dealer also gave a 2k loyalty discount making total 12,500. Then in. December I heard dealers were giving up to 20k off on MY23. I was like, damn should’ve waited 2 more months. Nut then again, 2 more months, my trade would have been even less……

I had no idea about the AMEX rebate...shows you how much the salespeople I talked to wanted to make a deal. "Hey, do you have an AMEX"?

When I leased my EQ, using the AMEX deal was several thousand off, don't recall the exact number.

yes I talked to many dealers and some would hint about it while others knew nothing. But in my opinion they all know about it and the ones that don’t disclose (and sell you the 580) ends up pocketing the discount for themselves (ie the dealer) this is what one sales guy told me so take it with a grain of salt. And fyi the current Amex discount of 10,750 is still active but only applies to the 2023 models. There is only a weak $750 discount running for the 24s at this time. So if you find a new 23 go jump on it!

Once they clear the 23s they'll apply the rebate to the 24s I'm sure

I'm going to wait to see the refresh before I do anything

Is this Amex discount only for leases? Looking for cash deal incentives.

No, it’s for any purchase. It also allows you to put more on your AMEX card than normal to get points.

Note, the AMEX incentive is NOT stackable with dealer cash. If you qualify for a loyalty rebate on a lease it can be stacked with that.

Right now on a 24 there is $5k in dealer cash OR $5,750 in the AMEX rebate. That is essentially a fleet credit. Plus a $5k loyalty rebate on a returning MB lease.

What you want to try and do is get your hands on most of the dealer profit (about 12.5%) and get that AMEX rebate. I have that deal on the table from a broker on an ordered car but cannot get anywhere close on a unit on the ground.

I don't have a trade-in or returning lease so those don't apply. Sorry I'm confused.... you mentioned the "amex incentive is NOT stackable with dealer cash" but you also said get "most of the dealer profit (about 12.5%) and get that AMEX rebate"?

There is also $5,000 in dealer cash that the dealer can apply and not come out of pocket. The 12.5% is the delta between invoice and MSRP and then the holdback. With the $5k in dealer cash a 0 deal would be 12.5% off MSRP minus $5,000. If you use the AMEX (fleet) incentive the dealer loses the $5k in dealer cash, so a 0 deal with the AMEX incentive would be 12.5% off MSRP minus $5,750.

If you qualify for the loyalty rebate then it would be 12.5% off MSRP minus $10,750

If you can get a dealer to give you 11% off before the AMEX rebate I would take it.

Not sure if that’s related but I just test drove a new EQS yesterday. Am not a fan of leases to avoid being stuck with cars for too long in exchange to a cheaper ownership experience, but the dealer said they can do crazy deals on leases. So I said go for it an run the numbers. They got me 35K MSRP off, from 141 to 106K and a lease payment of low 900s. It was a 2023 EQS by the way. I didn’t like the car enough anyway to buy it, it was just a stop to validate that I still have the best EV I can drive in today’s offerings. Anyway sounds like lease is the way to get the good deals (maybe).

Thank you for explaining So if I can the dealer to get me 10% off MSRP, they would probably not allow me to use the Amex rebate in addition to that?

Ive seen even better EQS deals. Deals on the S Class are nothing like that. On a $140,000 S Class the best deal you can get is ~ $1,700 a month.

Nono, you should get them to give you 10% off and then ALSO give you the AMEX discount. At 10% off they are still making ~ $3,000 on the car plus financing etc.

yeah, those numbers I wrote were given to me without even negotiating. Desperate salesman. He actually was honest and said we are trying to get those out as hard as possible…. Black interior for most of them and they couldn’t sell them for whatever reason. I didn’t like the regenerative braking at all and I tried all modes. I also hated that the car tried to move slowly when I stop like a gas engine one D until I one hard-push on brakes. I prefer one pedal drive in EVs and the EQS isn’t dialed in for that. Anyway still awesome comfort but not so much for the drivetrain behavior.

This sounds like the Creep function was enabled. I disabled that right away and use one pedal driving exclusively.

I just purchased a 2024 S580 3 weeks ago and was able to get a total of $25,000 off sticker. The breakdown was $19,250 off from dealer and $5,750 from AMEX (totaling $25K in discount). If I was returning a lease that was a 21 or newer they could add another $5,000 off but I did not qualify for that as I did not have a lease vehicle to return. I had called 3 other dealers to price match and none of them would do it. I was told they sold me the car at a loss as they needed to move it off the floor. Whether that was the case or not I was still happy with the deal. But this took nearly 6 months of waiting and checking in with them.

What was the MSRP?

The loyalty incentive isn't 21 or newer, its any lease that is maturing between April and September of 2024...they anticipate that will be moved ahead in September. I don't qualify because my lease matures in November not because my car is a 20.
