2022 W223 (S580) Oil Change Question

Want to start changing my own oil. Therefore I have a quick question. Does the car need to be level or can I use ramps and perform the oil change with only the front of the vehicle raised.

I am used to using ramps where the oil drain was on the rear of the oil pan. However, from the photos that I have seen it appears that the oil drain is near the center of the pan. If so, afraid that using ramps will leave a significant amount of "old oil" in the pan.

Btw, reason for doing this myself is that the dealer doesn't want to do it as often as I wish.

Thanks for any advice.

Strange the dealership isn't interested in doing it as often as you wish especially since you are paying. After all, service makes up the majority of a dealership's revenue.

That said, it doesn't have to be leveled as long as you drain it all. Just make sure to measure the oil when done at a level surface. I recommend getting yourself a copy of WIS before proceeding. As well as use oil with the appropriate approval shown here https://operatingfluids.mercedes-benz.com/

I am all for DIY, it is great stuff, enjoy : )

Oil change

Don't really understand. If the oil drain is in the middle of the pan, won't this ensure that some oil always remains? Therefore, don't understand how one can "make sure that all drains".

And the reason that dealer doesn't want to do it is they are busy, I provide my own oil (Motul 8100), ask them to take a 4 oz sample so I can send it for oil analysis, etc. Don't get it either but don't want to go where my business is not wanted.

Sorry about that and the confusion my post may had caused, I don't recall the requirement of draining the oil on leveled surface, however you do need to check the oil on leveled surface.

Unless you really do want to do it yourself I would find you a good independent who would be happy to change it more frequently for you.

RU sure this is for W223 model? The document shows 2 others models with 176 engine, not 223.

I said the document applies to the M177, not W223 specifically, I wasn't able to locate a copy specifically for the W223. If someone confirms the engine is a M177 then this procedure should be similar. For those who do want the W223 specific copy, they will need to have access to the latest version of WIS.
