What Sports/GT cars do owners of S class own?

In addition to my 2022 S580 I have a 2026 Porsche 911 (992.2) Targa 4S on order. Due to arrive January/February 2026.

What sports/GT cars do you own or are contemplating owning?

I suspect there are few that have a sports/GT in addition to their S Class judging from the kinds of folks who buy an S Class. If you have an S Class for daily driving, family duties and what not, then inevitably what happens is the sports/GT car in the stable is wasting away sitting around and collecting dust as the opportunities to drive it are few and far in between. I'm sort of in that place with my AMG as I don't have a need for daily driving and we tend to take my wife's regular car for errands that require a car or mundane A to B trips, so the AMG sits in the garage for sometimes multiple weeks. The upside is that whenever I do drive it, it still feels special.

That's an interesting take...from my own limited experience with other S Class owners they typically own several cars, one of which is a Sports/GT. Im curious whether demographics for a "typical" S class owners have changed over the years. Is the car appealing to a 'Younger" crowd who perhaps do not have the time or inclination to own another car (Sports/GT) at that stage of their life.

If you look at Porsche 911 owners or Ferrari Owners, there seems to be a trend to own other daily drivers such as something else from the Porsche family or a Benz/BMW etc. My 2c worth...

I have moved past those types of cars due to advanced age and living alone. I have owned the following sometimes simultaneously with other cars.
1) 1973 MGB 5) 1983 BMW 633 CSI
2) 1981 Mazda RX7 6) 2003 Infiniti G35 coupe
3) 1986 Mazda RX7 7) 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe
4) 1991 Mazda RX7 8) 2018 Porsche Panamera 4S

That’s hilarious…my first car was a 1990 Mazda RX7. I loved it.

I totally get it. The 911 may indeed be my last sports car. As time goes on ingress/egress, the hassle of ownership weigh much more on oneself!

The W223 is definitely targeting a younger generation, and they likely have kids, so daddy going for a ride in his sports car on the weekend isn't probably gonna sit well with the wife, and many of the older folks who own an S Class have outlived the firm suspensions and low seating position that come with a sports/GT car. The S Class in particular is kinda at the opposite end of the spectrum. If you are into the disconnected floaty driving experience that an S Class offers, what attracts you to a sports/GT car?

As for the 911 and Ferraris outside of the Lusso and Purosangue types, they aren't really daily drivers or road trip cars, so you need something else. I'm married w/o kids and I've almost exclusively owned 2+2 GT coupes, but the kind you could still daily drive if needed and have enough storage for a longer trip. I use my AMG as an actual grand tourer. For example I travelled around Europe for 2 months after picking it up at the factory. No issues fitting a large and medium checked luggage with room to spare and the rear seats are usable and were still available to have friends, relatives and family members come along. For me, even a sports/GT car needs to be useable, otherwise as said it ends up collecting dust. So I guess it comes down to what one plans to use their sports/GT car for.

Personally I think it makes a lot of sense that S Class owners would also have a sports/GT car as a third car. I would have one if I had a 3 car garage

Nope. Pass on GT / sports cars. Like many, getting too long in the tooth to enjoy stiff suspensions and uncomfortable drives. That, and I'm not a manlet, so most GT cars are way too tight for me.
Besides, I'd rather spend that GT money on a plane.

Opposite here as the "sport" AMG SUV (GLE63S) is the daily driver and the S580 is the garage queen. The GLE63S is quite a large and heavy SUV but it sure is quick and stable...

If I had the room for one, personally I would buy a Lexus LC500 convertible.

Gorgeous car, reasonably price and of course with the Lexus reliability.
Reviews say the driving dynamics isn't up to the level of the sporty design though.
I haven't driven one but unless you're taking it to a track, which most owners never will, I wouldn't think it's terrible to drive.

The drive is way more GT than sports car, I've driven them, but thats totally fine for me. I would just be driving it around for fun. Its one of the most beautiful cars made this century IMO

This is the spec I would get, Nori Green with the tan interior

I was staying at resort recently, BMW was there giving people cars to try including M5, I didn't think I'd like it, but I did.

Me too. But three car garages are too rare in our neck of the woods. I am getting my parents mint 2004 CLK in the next couple of years so I guess it would have to be 4 garages.

My wife LOVES the LC500 and wants a convertible. I had a 2018 and loved it! It was my DD. But it ate tires badly!!

Alongside the LC500 we have (still do) a Corvette Z06 Convertible. In fact, my bride just took off in it to the gym about 10 min ago with the top down looking all cute. I am blessed (not because of the things, but because of her).

Honestly, though, I still prefer to drive the S. I absolutely love my car!

I also ride a BMW K1600 - sporty, yes! But probably not what you were referring to! lol

Very nice! Yeah I wouldn't be able to have an LC as a primary car because I need to be able to drive my wife and kids in my car as well as in the family car. It would have to be a third car, or at least I would also have to have another car that I could use to take the kids places, etc

Great bikes. I bought a new K1600 GT in 2013 to ride around when I was snowbirding in Phoenix. Over the course of two winters, I had put 22000 some odd thousand miles on it.

Wow! That is a pile of miles! I wish I could do that but being in S FL, I don't ride as much as I want - but when I retire in Mar '26, we will start riding a LOT more. Can't wait!

Hats off to you for still riding your bike. I've never been a bike guy but I have two cousins who loved riding and they have stopped because of all the distracted drivers out there.

My S is also an AMG and a 5th car, so special and sporty enough when I want to get my car rocks off. It used to be the family limousine but the kids are now grown. The 500E is another "brute in a suit" sporty sedan, so again special and sporty.

The car that fits this question is probably the E46M, which was my 4-seater version of a 997 when the kids were young. But alas they are now old, and the E46M is still as rip roaring fun as ever.
