Parking and Collision Detection Photo Capture
My car was parked at a restaurant this past weekend and I got a notice for a minor collision detected. My car was within visual sight of me so I knew it wasn’t impacted but I went out and looked closely anyways and nothing. However, what I learned that day is that the car will take photos from every camera and save them. I’m talking all cameras, including both front cameras (bumper and windshield), the side view mirrors and rear cameras. You just have to follow the prompt in the app, which instructs you on how to download them from the car with a QR code. Pretty neat. I never knew our cars had this feature.

Yeah, I got the false alarm a number of times in both my W223s. Each time it was flagged as a minor collision when in fact it was a false alarm. As mentioned in your post, you must scan the QR code in the car and agree to some things before the photos will be uploaded. I'm wondering if anyone has actually had a real collision where the uploaded photos were beneficial in a hit and run for example?

Good question. I would imagine the photos are taken immediately upon detection. So, it would probably catch whatever hit you. Also, I noticed there are multiple photos taken per camera. I wonder if they purposely did that to get a sequence of motion, which would be more helpful in detection.

BMW has 360 camera just like Benz, but in the event of an accident like you said, it also records a full "video" for all cameras, including the time before and after the incident, and send it right to your phone.
Looks like a very simple thing to implement via an OTA if Mbenz wanted to. The car is capable of doing so. My former Tesla received this feature in the past via OTA.

Tesla not only has 360 view capture, but also live video streaming anytime.
BMW has 360 camera just like Benz, but in the event of an accident like you said, it also records a full "video" for all cameras, including the time before and after the incident, and send it right to your phone.

I wouldn't say "shame" but I'd really really REALLY wish to find the answer on why they have been consistently late and lagging behind with technological features lately, across the board.... What's taking their focus instead!
