Use ChatGPT to Search MBWorld

You guys probably know that I'm a fan of ChatGPT. But when it comes to searching MBWorld, the native search tools built into the site are clunky to me. I find it hard to locate posts I've made in the past, or search for topics on which other members have posted. As an example, I opened ChatGPT and asked it to find the last 10 questions my username MEM30306 started on the site. While it listed some posts that I didn't start, but simply participated in, it did a great job of finding posts and listing them. In its response, it lists a clickable link to the right of the entry that you can follow to the post. Once prompted, it takes ChatGPT a matter of seconds to locate posts on the site. Moreover, if prompted correctly, it can search other sites too and include them in the results.

Has anyone else used ChatGPT or another Large Language Model to search MBWorld? Do you have a preference?

Can't answer your question on ChatGPT as I am not that into AI however to your other question on method to search I use google search with the quotation marks like "type search term here" then site:mbworld.org
Since you used yourself as an example hope you don't mind I as well : )
https://www.google.com/search?q=%22M...%3Ambworld.org
In the case of threads created by you, we could go to your public profile and hit find threads created by you and it will list them.

Don't mind you using my username at all. Never thought to use a Google search - but makes sense.

I wish the forum's search was more efficient and effective at the same time though.

I was wondering when the last post was by some of the more active members - like @crabman . Many of his posts made me laugh. Looks like he hasn't posted since December of 2024. Did he sell his car and move on? Anyone know?

I couldn’t find a definitive, public list showing the exact last post by crabman on MBWorld.org (because the forum itself doesn’t provide that via search results or an open API). However, based on the latest pages indexed that include crabman’s posts, the most recent identifiable post we can see is from December 13, 2024 in the “First S-Class!” thread — where crabman is shown posting about lighting and matrix headlights on Dec 13, 2024. https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ce=chatgpt.com

I believe he went over to the dark side with a BMW. I just did a quick search here for “Crabman” and got this from 9/21/25:

Great way to search!
These online forums use very similar search engines that were never easy to navigate.
I've always utilized google with the :forum name attached which has turned way better results searching for threads.

Can't blame anyone for going with the BMW.
Their reliability with the powertrain (phenomenal, btw) has improved significantly over the past several years, although the design has taken a step backwards.
Just like Lexus struggling with their earlier 'Spindle' grill design but eventually progressing into sleek exteriors over the years, I'm hoping BMW will come to their senses and bring back some classic design cues with better side profiles.

It's a great tool for things like this. I use it to search for and track all sorts of stuff.

As long as you use it as a tool, and verify the information, it's immensely helpful.

Sorry I haven't been more attentive; Mrs Crab got cancer, and it's been a lot.

I did pick up a BMW, and I would agree they're a little better screwed together as of late. I had been thinking about jumping back in here, but I'm not into all the stars everywhere. One hood ornament makes a statement, so do stars everywhere. But with the former, it's saying, this is who I am, and nothing more need be said. With the latter, well, it's saying nothing good to me.

In any event, I'm waiting to see what happens with the 7, before I move to the next thing. But to go back to where I started, my heart hasn't really been in the hunt. I'm trying, but as I said, it's been a bit of a struggle lately. I do think of you folks, and wish you nothing but good things.

I'm sure we are all very sorry to hear of your wife's cancer and hope that it's not too horrible and that she recovers quickly. I'm certainly with you on the stars. Best of luck to you.

So sorry to hear that, I will be thinking of you both and wishing for a speedy recovery for her.

Take care of yourself, too...

For fun, I had ChatGPT analyze just a couple of guys with whom I have high-level respect on MBWorld. The only reason I'm first is because I started with me. I know Steve and Daniel by name only because I've seen them mention their name before. I'm sorry to admit I don't know W205C43PFL's name.

Here's ChatGPT's response in grid form:

Appreciate the kind mention, I am glad to hear that some of the post might perhaps (?) be helpful. My name is Derek. Awesome to have you all in this wonderful community. My honour as well to be part of the community.

I am retired, which is why I had a lot of time to spend on the forums and I try my best to help even though I am not always helpful and admittedly, my answers aren't always correct.

I appreciate the learning opportunity and therefore gain knowledge on various topics on MBs. I then try to answer similar questions that are asked by other forum members based on what I acquired from the forums, trying to see if it can help them out.

That said, although I am retired, lately I had other things to attend to and I am sorry that I wasn't able to dedicate the same amount of time I had in the previous years on this forums but I will still be around.

I hope you all are well and remain well! Please also take care and enjoy these engineering marvels by MB in great health!

Best regards,
Derek
