2003 S55 AMG
Question COMMAND Upgrade

I have a 2003 S55 with the 2003 COMMAND system. When compared to my 2005 Lincoln Navigator system, the Lincoln puts it to shame. The Lincoln Nav is touch screen, it has voice recognition, etc. The MB system is a bit archaic. Is it possible to upgrade the system to a 2005 or 2006 COMMAND?

Thanks!

i believe the 2003 and the 2006 is almost the same. in terms of features that is. visually, it is a little different but the actual navigation is roughly the same. I also feel that the comand is far behind their competitors. I love the new Lexus navigation systems WAY MORE than the S class

The COMAND in the S Class was upgraded in 2004 models, adding DVD navigation aswell as a tape player and DVD-MP3 functionality all from the front panel which slides down electronically to replace the CD navi and also it has a 3d view to replace the old 2d view.

You should be able to upgrade the system, you just need to find a place to retrofit it, where abouts are you based?

WOW, tape player??? is there another panel that moves up to reveal the cassete player? i know the screen moves up to allow a cd to be inserted or removed.

The screen slides up and down to reveal either the single play CD or the cassette player.

I don't know that having a touch screen is better. Personally, touching the screen leave fingerprints and that drives me crazy.

Both of MBs have voice controls for the Nav as well as most other functions.

I'll have to check out this Lincoln system to see what I'm missing. I don't think my next car will be another MB.

I presume that this is just a guess rather then a statement based on first hand experience? If not, then please tell so.

The DVD comands are MOST based...the CD rom comands are D2B based...every single audio related part (CD changer, phone, voice recognition, bose soundsystem, teleaid, TV tuner) has to be swapped out (incl. the wiring harnesses).
BUT then there is still the changed CANBUS protocols that prevent the audio system from not wanting to function properly (steering wheel controls for example)...

The cassette player in the DVD comands has already been taken out again...no longer to be found in the new DVD comands.

greetingz,

greetingz,
Taken out already? Why did they do that?

As for retro fitting, there is a company called Braybrooks in the UK who specialise in Mercedes equipment fitting, might want to give them a call.

can be done!new alpine hub!!!

just came back from local auto image security store,l have 2003 s55amg with the 220 comand unit and he says start by putting navtv then attach the new alpine hub$300.00 l am using existing screen(keeping factory look) and l am going to use a kenwood navigation, sirrius satellite dvd player and l also need a kenwood remote kit.

the secret is the new alpine hub that has just come out. They are also installing an escort sr7plus detector and jammer and l am having the car tinted with mettallic tint 35% or 50% undecided as i want to keep it sporty yet classy!!!

this install will be done starting this week,l even advised the guys that it couldnt be done but he insists it can with this alpine hub.
