Sweeet. Especially because of the AWD. Imagine it had the power of the 65.

Detractors of the S8 are quick to point out that the BMW M5 bests the S8’s power levels by a good 50-bhp. While that may sound significant though, the Bimmer doesn’t hit its lower peak torque of 383 lb.-ft until a heady 6100 rpm, making the power delivery more like the Gallardo’s than that of the S8. On the track, such power is nice to have, though torque tends to be the name of the game on the highway or around town in a large sedan.

See, but why does Audi do this? This car is going to get lost in the HP shuffle again. The only thing going for it is that it has a V10. Think about this.......why would I buy a car that is slower than the baby AMG C class? 0-60? Does not make any sense. Look at the S55 and the S600 monster hp and monster torque as it should be. They need to step it up. That torque is a laugh compared to the competition and for a V10 engine.....come on Audi! Get it together here. I love the way the car looks, always have, but spending that much money I'd go for CLS55, E55, or new M5 in a heart beat.

That 0-60 isn't official, so don't jump to any conclusions just yet. Lot of times the manufacturer's 0-60 times isn't the real one.

a few...
even if it isn't as quick. audi has a way of not making the fastest but some of the funnest to drive. the quattro system really gets your attention and lets you have some fun you don't usually do. and the way an audi rides is like no other. just something about the way the suspension is balanced.

the W12 is a nice car to drive around town, very agreeable. while driving on the highway it cruises easily in the upper speeds ahemm but i would love to get my hands on an S8.

While complaining about lack of torque and horsepower, also keep in mind that this car is also E55, not S55 priced, let alone the V12 monsters.

I've looked fairly seriously at the new S8. It and the previous Audi A8's and S's have always gotten rave reviews, and anyone I've ever known who owned one loved it. One advantage, besides the new powerplant and Quattro, is the ample seating in the back (which I have usually found missing in all of the smaller models).
The real problem I have with Audis (I have owned three including a 5000 Quattro wagon which was just awesome!) is that the damn parts are so expensive when you have to take it into the shop.....
Quattro does a fantastic job -- I often lament that AMG MBZ's don't have it for my residences which have serious winter road conditions. I think that the new S8 is a real contender -- test drive one and you may decide to take one.... Whether you decide to keep it or not is another issue.....

Wow... I'm a HUGE MB fan but the Audi's look anything but cheap. Have you had a chance to see the interior first hand? IMPECABLE.

I think the question is why would anyone compare a full size luxury sedan w/ a compact.

Exactly what I just may do ! After seeing the new S-Class today and then driving to the Audi dealer, I have to tell you, there is no comparison. Obviously subjectively, the exterior is much slicker on the Audi A8L, IMHO. The interior in the A8L is hands down the winner, with the W221 not even close. I may have try this S8 !

And another thing about the Audi, is just what another member said.. it's a step below BMW or Benz.

That is, it's not that big of an attention getter!

i.e. it's not a status symbol, therefore the dealerships treat the customers much better both before and after the sale. Plus, the other customers aren't nearly as annoying. I've never had to deal with a middle aged woman and her lap dog being "more important" than me in the service department.
