Audi S8 Driven

Detractors of the S8 are quick to point out that the BMW M5 bests the S8’s power levels by a good 50-bhp. While that may sound significant though, the Bimmer doesn’t hit its lower peak torque of 383 lb.-ft until a heady 6100 rpm, making the power delivery more like the Gallardo’s than that of the S8. On the track, such power is nice to have, though torque tends to be the name of the game on the highway or around town in a large sedan.

even if it isn't as quick. audi has a way of not making the fastest but some of the funnest to drive. the quattro system really gets your attention and lets you have some fun you don't usually do. and the way an audi rides is like no other. just something about the way the suspension is balanced.
the W12 is a nice car to drive around town, very agreeable. while driving on the highway it cruises easily in the upper speeds ahemm but i would love to get my hands on an S8.

I've looked fairly seriously at the new S8. It and the previous Audi A8's and S's have always gotten rave reviews, and anyone I've ever known who owned one loved it. One advantage, besides the new powerplant and Quattro, is the ample seating in the back (which I have usually found missing in all of the smaller models).
The real problem I have with Audis (I have owned three including a 5000 Quattro wagon which was just awesome!) is that the damn parts are so expensive when you have to take it into the shop.....
Quattro does a fantastic job -- I often lament that AMG MBZ's don't have it for my residences which have serious winter road conditions. I think that the new S8 is a real contender -- test drive one and you may decide to take one.... Whether you decide to keep it or not is another issue.....

Obviously subjectively, the exterior is much slicker on the Audi A8L, IMHO. The interior in the A8L is hands down the winner, with the W221 not even close. I may have try this S8 !
That is, it's not that big of an attention getter!
