Considering an S65... questions

Yes, it's me again. I miss my '03 S600, and am contemplating getting an S65 for a couple years until the new S63 is available and past the crazy markups. A few questions for this forum:

- does the S65 come with a rear limited-slip diff? My S600 did not have one, which was irritating; my SL65 does and it's very helpful when hooking up off the line.

- Can anyone compare & contrast the handling of the S600 and S65? The 600 suspension was clearly geared toward luxury ride, and while it had plenty of stick and could be hustled around corners, it didn't have the same turn-in or tracking as the AMG.

- Any other thoughts/comments on the S65 from those who have them?

Thanks in advance!

Treynor--not to hijack, but your name came up at my Mercedes dealer today. One of the salesmen there mentioned you when we were talking about Mercs at the drag strip and amazing times, etc... He must read some of the car boards you frequent. I also recognize you from the Viper board (I have an 02 Viper RT/10). I also just made a prelimiary deal on an 06 S65. I don't believe it has an LSD, but not 100% sure. I've been having a tough time finding out the standard options on the S65.

No LSD on the S65 only the SL65.....

Options seem to be sketchy for the S65. My dealer had told be three things now MBUSA something different and Netstar is wacky as well. Cars coming in don't match what is in Netstar at all.

Not just only the SL65. If you get 030 on SLK and CLS I believe they get an LSD as well.

The only standard car to have the LSD is the SL65.

You can now get the 030 package on the CLS55 and SL55 that includes a LSD.

So the SLK 030 doesn't have a LSD?
Bummer!

Not really - you need to adjust the ESP to work in concert with a LSD.

I had my dealer install a Kleemann LSD in '04 S600 ,did not interfere with ESP and made a hell of a difference in launching the car.(about $2500)

Got an 05 S65 totally standard (no LSD).

Had a good long test drive in the S600 biturbo and had a S55kompressor

Now the S600 I drove was a standard one with the ABC, no AMG sportpack features.

The AMG cars both handle better than the standard S600, but with a slightly stiffer ride, both AMG cars have better steering, the steering has more weight, it's easier to place in a corner, even has a little feel with feedback and the amgs had more directional stability at high speed. The S65 has a fraction more grip than the s55 (and sure than the s600 had) . The S65 tramlines slightly more underbraking than the s55 did and I'm sure more than the S600 did probably due to the larger wheels and tyres. The S65 does brake a bit better than the others.

S65 handling is similar to the s55, perhaps doesn't turn in a fraction as well or changes direction a fraction less sharply, but has a little more grip and compsure in fast sweepers, but pretty close, as said above both were better for sporting driving than the S600 I drove.

Not got any track clips of the S65 yet

an old compliation of the s55 which shows some on track

The ABC is so apparent in the track footage. Horizontal as can be through the bends.

Well, that sure didn't take very long. I'm signing the papers on my new '06 S65 in about 20 minutes. Stopped by the dealer to take some pictures of their red Carrera GT, and ended up getting a deal I couldn't refuse on a silver S65

Anyone looking for a '06 RX400h that I no longer have room for? I'll probably just trade it in (they're still hot here in NorCal, so the dealer offers are good) but if anyone's been hunting for a white Lexus hybrid, this is your chance.
