Only in NorCal...

I'm driving back this afternoon from some last-minute Christmas shopping in the S65, which I just filled up with 100 octane to celebrate finishing break-in. On the freeway at ~80 mph, I hear an unusual exhaust note and look over to see...

... wait for it ...

a Porsche Carrera GT, silver, gunning it up to speed, the big rear spoiler deploying as I watch I know a guy who has just such a car, so I must now instigate.

I nail the gas, zoom up alongside and pace him and get his eye. It's not my friend Nonetheless, I wave and give the thumbs up. The driver glances over, but then looks back and stays in the #3 lane. I floor it again, but the GT isn't changing lanes or persuing.

I take it up to 100, but he's no longer even in the rearview. Must just be out for a Saturday cruise.

ARRRRRRGH -- soooo close. S65 vs Carrera GT on the freeway would be one of those race-for-the-ages tales. I'll keep trolling. Around here, it's just a matter of time before I find one willing to play.

Would've been interesting -- there aren't many passenger cars that can hang with a CGT at speed...could an AMG with a monster biturbo V12?

Sounds Like
Sounds like the guy in the Porsche didn't wanted to have his bubble busted. It is easier to think what you may have instead of finding out what you don't.

Perhaps next time pulling in front of him and driving for a few miles with arm fully extended up with middle finger in the air? Works like a charm....

I'll race ya Treynor.

The funny thing is that the majority of CGT owners, don't ever push their cars to 50% of its capability. I buy a car to drive it, and drive it hard. I don't know why people would buy the pinnacle of performance and never get the revs over 5000. That would have been a great story though.

From driving both a RennTeched V12 and the CGT, I think that in the hands of a skilled driver, the CGT will start to walk away from the Benz and steadily disappear. With that being said, the CGT is extremely difficult to drive and is very unforgiving, The Benz is point and shoot, that's why I love them both!!

Ben, if you ever make it out to AZ, we've gotta go run 'em!

Heh. I've driven in a CGT as well, and I concur - driven properly, it should walk away (slowly) from an x65 Benz. It still would have been fun however

If I ever get one of the uber-Benzes to AZ, we'll definitely run 'em. What a video it would make!

Renn and T, be sure to give advanced notice. Witnessing you guys race would justify a trip to AZ. We could have lunch later with the guys from the forum. I am sure quite a few would show up.

Wish it would of been me in my CGT, we would of found out who was faster.

Owning a Renntech S600 and a CGT I can tell you that the Porsche is faster at any speed, but not a whole lot.

I disagree with RenntechV12 the CGT isn't difficult to drive especially in that situation. It is more difficult to launch off the line, but at 80mph, just hit the gas and shift at redline.

I have raced some superbikes at highway speeds and they can't pull away from me in the Porsche.

Isn't launch part of driving?

Hey RennTechV12- Do you just drop the clutch in yours with no revs? Or have you had yours long enough to actually learn how to deal with the bast@rd in a different way?

It likes to be let out somewhere around 2800rpms, any less and it tries to stall.
