AMG Painted Calipers
I'm wanting to change my sliver stock calipers ('03 S55) to red ones. I'd like to however retain the AMG logo on them. I'm thinking they would have to be power coating b/c of the heat. Anyone know someone who sells these or are they available from the dealer in red?

i believe you can go to any aftermarket speed shop and pick up red caliper paint. they are designed specifically to withstand the heat. As for as the AMG logo, you can go to a vinyl decal company and have them design and cut out a decal for you. I did this process on my 97 Supra and it came out looking as good as factory. If you need a vinyl shop, give me a pm, a buddy of mine owns a vinyl company and will honor internet orders.

I masked my calipers off with tape and used a razor to cut around the AMG logo. Sprayed the calipers and peeled the tape......looked like it came from the factory. Take your time in the prep work and things should come out for you.

Another idea is to send them to a shop that doesnt use powdercoat. For instance, Stoptech brakes are not powdercoated. They have a paint that is hi-temp safe and doesnt need to be baked, hence saving the seals.

Oh, I agree with you there - powdercoating is the shiznit - and should be used wherever one can (and can afford to) - but if it's just an issue of making a change, and of having the change be an improvement and one of acceptable quality? Painting calipers with (high-temp) caliper paint works great, and is just fine. I certainly don't believe that all factory-done calipers are powdercoated....

It’s easier and less complicated to just use the high temp caliper or engine spray paint....just mask as needed. After putting on the decals, use a high temp gloss clear.

you can't powdercoat brake calipers - Brembo certainly does not. i had mine re-done by Brembo and they jsut strip them and repaint them.
i don't recall the exact reason why, but the Brembo guy told me powdercoating brake calipers was a NO, NO... :v
