New info on 2008's...
So I have an S63 on order for May build. Salesman said they just recieved info that the early samples will not have some features that will be standard for 08. Namely, satellite traffic, bird's eye view in the NAV and, get this, audio/VIDEO input into the Command. Looks like MB is updating their Command units for 08. Didn't know if our car will be considered "early" but would love to have the latest gizmos. Might push my build date later.

I defintely would. We love these cars partly because they have all the latest and greatest tech -- it would constantly nag me that mine was "compromised"

I received the same call from my sales manager and Mercedes is offering $500 back plus a free IPod plug in the glove box.
If this is not acceptable a new build date will be entered for sometime in August or September.

Apparently, this has affected about 930 "early production" CL & S63's worldwide. What I found amusing was that Mercedes called the $500 credit and "free" $425 iPod installation a "Customer Loyalty Program" for the missing standard equipment. It could be worse, based on MB's prior difficulties providing much coveted options such as P2 & P3 on the W221, so all things considered, this isn't as disappointing as it could be. My CL is in Baltimore and I will be taking delivery the next few days.

My S63 is on the water and due in Long Beach, Ca on May 22nd. Thanks to everyone on this thread, I checked with my dealer and, sure enough, the NAV/command system changes will not be available until the 'regular' 2008 production run. This is estimated to be August/September production for 'Q4' delivery. I have re-placed the order for a 'full featured' 2008 S63. Thanks Again.

I should check with my dealer -- i was told that my May 20 production car will be full featured. is it possible that the slots between now and august are just full so that if you move back in the queue you slide back to August??

I will let you be the judge. My dealer indicated that the reason the 'early' ~975 2008's will not have the NAV/Command upgrades is that Bosch and other suppliers are not committed to providing the hardware/software until the 'regular' 2008 production runs in late Q3/early Q4.

Intuitively seems odd that they identified exactly how many cars were shortchanged if they will keep producing them for three more months. Also, the # (975 or so) seems like it can't be much more than 1-2 months production. i have a message in directly to MB USA and will confirm the answer

I just got off the phone with Mercedes Benz Customer Assistance. The 'S-Class Specialist' informed me that the first 2008 S63's with the new Command System features, e.g., Traffic NAV, Birds Eye View and A/V connectors to the Command system will be present in cars produced AFTER June 2007.

Interestingly, my production date was moved from 5/30 to 6/14. I wonder if MB just wanted to get a batch of cars out to meet production/launch date and satisfy some early orders, and is perhaps delaying the rest until they can offer full featured cars (and not give away $1,000/car)

Out Of Control!!
If the new nav system has the traffic feature, XM will probably replace Sirius. Other manufacturers with the traffic feature require XM and do not offer Sirius. I think that is a bad decision. I have listened to both and I prefer Sirius. I personally do not find the traffic feature necessary and I doubt that I would use it more often than a couple of times a year. I think MB is taking a step backwards if they switch to XM. Just my opinion.

BMW is rolling out live traffic on most of their '08 models, but are gettting the traffic info from Clear Channel radio (over the air) rather than from satellite, and sticking with Sirius. I imagine Mercedes likely doing the same.

The OEM version disables the DVD while moving, I'm pretty sure you can find an aftermarket solution - but hey with the way your car looks you can get the real thing ;-)
