I just got my wife the X5 4.8. Every option short of sport package (we occasionally use it as a fishing truck) and entertainment (not into it). It is a GREAT car! Previous was an 03 XC90 T6AWD, which replaced the Cadillac Escalade. (We got it just before it turned into a pimp-mobile) Anyways, the BMW is a great car, looks great, and makes me WANT to drive it instead of feeling like I'm STUCK with the Volvo. (No offense, they make quality, safe cars, but coming out of an E55k (at the time) it was not a whole lot of fun). The BMW assaults corners, straightaways, and groceries with ease. I could go on and on, but it's really your decision. Or rather, *yalls* decision. We found the Bimmer to be significantly roomier than the Audi with varying seating configurations, a major selling point for us. Not to mention the renowned BMW handling, and the V8 even sounds really nice! Surprisingly so. In fact, it's the first SUV short of the Cayenne Turbo that I actually enjoy revving up a bit.

Now you're on my hit list cantdrive...dead to me. Audi interior volume is 144 vs X5's 102..it ain't even close. Audi has more room in every interior category except front seat shoulder room. Also, the major benefit of Audi that all the reviews talk about is the ability to entirely remove the 2nd row seat, which offers a huge amount of space for rear passengers. Gotta stick up for my recommendation...I have a greatest hits CD on the line here. I'm just sayin' is all.

Hahahaha-peebs-that was good. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm actually laughing. I believe on the interweb they call that PWNED. That just happened.. The numbers are deceiving though. It's hard to explain. Personally, I love the Audi (and all of them for that matter) but the BMW worked better in our situation. The configuratibility (word?) of the Bimmer worked better for our family's size. In real world figures (9 and 13 year old girls in the back seats) the BMW seemed to work better. But that S-Line Audi, if you can talk your wife in to it is really a treat. Drive/get comfortable in both, consider your families needs, etc. But they are THE two cars to have. Don't forget the Mercedes GL! It was actually my favorite of all of them, save for the tiny side mirrors. Literally killed the deal for my wife. (The BMW's are the size of Texas!)

my wife drives a Q7 3.6 S Line totally loaded. She loves and I love driving it. We looked at every possible SUV and hands down the Q7 was the best. RRs are a royal pains in the butt. One thing for sure you will get to know your service advisor very well.

For what its worth, my 2004 Range Rover is about to come off lease, and I have NEVER had a car (MB, BMW, Porsche) that spent less time in service or had fewer problems. Maybe having BMW design the car helped out!!

You got a good one. Leasing it was very smart. You don't what to own one beyond 50K miles. According to Edmunds RRs are very unrealiable and prone to having many problems. But that's just Edmunds research.

One more thing I forgot to mention- the X5 gets smokin gas mileage for a big V8 SUV. Averaging 75 today coming back from the lakehouse, it got 23.7 mpg. Got nearly the exact same doing a constant 80 (avg 78.8 going to San Antonio a few weeks ago). That iDrive does have some nifty features..

Try the MB ML (350 or 500) or get a ML63:)

Have her drive the ML. My wife wanted an X5 until the new MLs released in 06. Once she drove it we bought it. I have another friend who was deciding between the BMW & MB. They went with the ML as well.

In my opinion, the ML is one of the least attractive SUVs on the road. Completely bland, shapeless and unmemorable

On the other hand, I think the GL (particulatly the new 500) is good looking, well designed inside, drives nicely. WE passed (got an escalade instead) because we needed both three rows of seats AND luggage space and none of the smaller SUVs offer both

we drove the ML, GL, and RR and she now has her heart set on a grey 08 X5 4.8, so we have placed an order with the dealer. I wanted the GL after driving it. I love the comfort and space over the sportiness of the BMW.

Noxxin - Been traveling a bit - she's doing great. Droped her off Fri nite for the first 1K - 3K service - while there went over a SLR that was in with the Shop foreman - man what a machine. The engine is pretty impressive, Today went out for some runs with a friend wha had been on the E55 board - but upgraded we went out in his brand new (he got it 3 weeks ago) 997TT - boy that car has pull - but in sport it'd be a real tough daily ride.

Nice, welcome back. a guy I know owns an SLR as well as a bevy of other fine autos. I have never ridden in it but did sit in it in his driveway once. He usually gets driven in the Phantom and the slr sits in his garage...what a shame. If I had a beast like that I would be in serious trouble.....

997 TT is a gorgeous and insane car as well, I see a lot in LA and always admire them from a far. If I ever go with a true sports car I think that's what I would get.
