Rear tail lights S63
I can't for the life of me figure out how to turn on the top small red tail lights (black on my car because I tinted them) or what there exact purpose is. I have tried with my foot on the brake in park, drive, reverse and neutral, with the turn signals and hazards on, with the light knob in every possible position, while driving, and every other way you could possibly think of. It appears that there is a bulb inside the lens cover, so what gives? Does my car have a fuse issue or some other problem or is there some simple answer that I just haven't come up with? What are others experience with this? Thanks, I hope it's not some doe-doe answer that I couldn't figure out

It could be the European fog light option or the parking light (also European). I remember something about leaving the turn signal stalk in the right or left position as you turn the car off or something like that.

It could also be reserved for PANIC!!!! braking. I've been reading about this feature in mags (even Popular Science-nerd alert!) starting to become popular in high-end cars. When you really SLAM on the brakes, extra lights illuminate, which are either extra bright or flashing to really catch people's attention so that they have a seizure and rear-end you at the same time.. (not funny) On the wife's X5, there are some red lights that extend in towards the tailgate/hatch which only illuminate during panic braking-believe me.. damn power-crazed cops.

Pretty sure its the Euro Fog light. On the old models you would PULL the headlight switch towards you to get them on.

In Europe, when you drive with your fog lights you're also required to switch on a single (left-only) light in the rear, to warn traffic behind you that they're entering a fogbank. You pull the multi-switch out one detent to turn on the (front) fogs, and a second to add the rear fog. It just makes the left side of the rear brighter red than the right. Most people in this country don't recognize what it means anyway, which is why it's "Euro."

Hey Eddie, did you ever get a chance to see if your tail lights work? I just spoke to my dealer and he thinks they should light up and wants me to bring the car by today to check it out. Thanks.

We (me and noxxin) have confirmed - the top left is the rear fog light, the European directional parking lights illuminate the respective lowers. There is bulb in the top right and according to Noxxin's dealer this is for a failsafe backup mechanism.
