When you buy the car (AMGs only) there is a sticker on the top of the windshield that says you have to wait 3.000 miles before going crazy. I work at a dealer in Van Nuys and was giving a test drive and the guy went crazy on a 15 mile car and the check engine light came on...all of the seals and gaskets were blown. Thankfully he bought it and it was a warranty job.

I thought all cars were tested at the factory for several laps of high-speed runs.... all I've been hearing, it's not the engine that requires the break-ins.... but the differentials, the transmission and whatnot. For them, not only I drive easy during the first x thousand miles... I always drive easy for at least the first 5-6 miles every time the car runs cold - just to allow the oil and all lubricants to properly lube all the internals.

There should be a sticker says 1000 miles 4500 rpm limit 85 mph, no kickdown. It is also in the book.
I just peeled mine off after 1200 miles

Someone has said they do bench test the engines but the transmission, drivetrain etc need breaking in too.
I am happier with the car now but still seems really BIG compared to my S55 - can't figure that out but it is growing on me....
