The day before yesterday, my dealer delivered a black-on-black 2008 S65. The sticker was something around $192,000.

I took delivery of a 2008 S65 yesterday (black/black). I haven't posted anything, because I don't have any pics yet.

I haven't driven an S63, but I own an ML63, so I have some familiarity with that engine and transmission. I bought the S65 because I needed a 4-door car that has strong acceleration at any speed. Do I really need that? No, but I wanted it. The 63 is a great engine that develops thrust at higher rpm's, and there is more shifting that goes on with the 7-speed. The 65 has torque almost anywhere in the power band and it's there right now, instead of needing to downshift a couple of gears to get the engine higher in the power band. And, I think the Mercedes 5-speed is a little better sorted out than the 7-speed.

I'll try to post some more observations with pics when I get a block of time to do it.

03 S55 AMG
S65

It amazes me that someone driving an M3 Cabrio would TRY to play with an S65. You would think that someone driving an M3 would be enough of an enthusiast to know just what S65 AMG means. It happens to me occasionally and I just have a lowly 03 S55 AMG. I'm going to keep my S55 for 3 more years and hope to be able to buy an 07 S65 as that's the only way I can afford one. I do have 07 S65 wheels on my S55.

My08 S65

Haven't seen any S65 '08s yet, but it's fire sale time on the remaining '07s. About $25K off sticker so far and it's getting pretty late.

By the way: do you love yours? Any problems with it?

Thanks a lot.

They do sell S65s in Europe. Bought a new one about 2 weeks ago directly from the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen factory. The drive to Zurich was incredable. An 08' with the same specs as the one I sold in the States.

Aren't 65s addictive? Congrats

Do S65s in EU have wood steering wheel...or all-leather sport steering wheel w/paddleshifters?

Did you debadge 65? Able (politically) to commute to office in a new 65 in Zurich?

Welcome your observations re: car culture diffces btwn Zurich and SiliconValley.....my uninformed sense is that Zurich/Munich, etc are akin to US industrial Midwest, e.g., Chicago, w/a more conservative consumption culture in one's home city....but many affluent car guys in Chicago simply get wkend houses in LA to keep their more interesting cars in a more consumption-friendly culture/climate/topography.....is Zurich similar?

A friend of a friend of a friend works for MB Corporate in Germany. I ordered the car before leaving the United States. I have no badgeing on the car whatsoever. Not on the sides or the trunk. I was informed badgeing the EU is typically not warrented. The US does it and people in the US like it so they do it. As far as the steering wheel it is the leahter with paddle shifters. Again people like wood in the US so they cater to the US need. Living in EU has been a little getting used to for my family but by the time school starts for my children things should normalize. Having an EU car, no limitor and a car that does not have to meet the same stringent USA DOT requirements is a blessing. Got to go to work now. It's 7:30 in the morning 8/3/07 in Z

2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS
I was entering the Greektown in Detroit a few days back and was waiting for a turn into a street, just as a brand new S65 was to take a turn into the road I was getting off of. The exhaust was mesmerizing: an italianate sound, with a hint of muscle-car burble, overall very smooth but powerful effect. So, I have one question: Does the SL65 sound the same, or did MB come up with a new exhaust system for the new S AMGs? If the upcoming post-facelift SL65 sounds the same or better, I know what my next car is. I mean, I drive almost the same (regular, non-AMG) engine, but it is not nearly as wonderful-sounding--although much better in the SL than the older S.
