NEED TO BUY A POLICE SCANNER: Any suggestions?
I'm going on a car race and I have police detectors in the bumpers and laser diffusers, but I need an EASY to use and portable police scanner. Does anyone have any reccomendations and where to buy online?

Basically, you'll have to program the unit for each jurisdiction you want to scan. On top of that many departments can use encrypted digital radio transmissions - you won't be able to listen in on those.

I had a 1978 Pontiac T/A a long time ago and the previous owner had mounted a scanner on a plate and then removed the golve box door and mounted the plate. It was almost useless if memory serves me correct. The state troopers don't seem to ever use the police radios either. If you notice a lot of them talk to each other on their cell phones.
If you get one I hope you can hook it into the speaker system of the car. The one I had in my old T/A was hooked to the speakers in the Recaro seats headrests.
If you get one let us know how it goes.

Nice idea... A few years back I used to be big into street racing. A guy I knew had scanners and would alert us when the police were near. He ended up getting pulled over and faced an extra felony count for having the scanner, while committing a crime (street racing) .... It wasn't worth it in this case, but that is Florida. Different states im sure have different laws.
Good luck!

You can look on ebay for one of these:
Uniden BearTracker BCT-10 Mobile Police Scanner
Uniden BCT8 Trunktracker Police Scanner
Uniden portable Police Scanners will work for what you need. Years ago they had a unit that looked like a radar detector so police did not know it was a scanner. In some states you are not aloud to use one of these in your car so check your state laws and you can always hide it and play through a speaker and if you do get pulled over turn it off!
I have K40 too front and back bumper but when your at 125 mph+ and the trooper is going 55 mph + coming at you it’s hard to put the brakes on that fast so I was given the police prize that day of $750. Fine and speeding ticket was not fun for me a few months back. He wrote me up for 90 in a 65 mph zone and the judge gave it to my attorney. I didn’t get the points but I got everything else!!

I'd like to grab one of those scanners as well. But while you're at it, here's another illegal device you might be interested in.

Hey relax. Just a heads up that this isn't just a slap on the wrist in most jurisdictions. In fact, you're almost assuredly better off risking the ticket(s), than getting caught with a scanner.

Hey i have a bct15 uniden beartracker and its the best analog scanner you can buy. You may want to check out this http://radardetector.net It has info on best scanner, radar detector, laser jammer, mirt and the such. Also check out this website http://www.bearcatwarehouse.com/inde...TS&Category=32
this is where i bought my scanner and they were cheap and shipped fast. I would proabably get a digital 396t portable and then get a good external antenna to put on out side of the car.

Changing lights
For ambulances and fire trucks. They'll throw away the key on that one. I think it was in CO the traffic engineers detected traffic slowing in certain areas at same time each morning that otherwise should not have occurred. Combined with some commuters complaining about certain lights they finally tracked down a guy who had this device and was using it to get to work. Don't remember the sentence but not pretty.

Radio traffic is at a minimum these days since the takeoff of MDT's. Most calls are dispatched in total silence. Also, Nextel phones are widely used in law enforcement keeping the radios even quieter. These days a scanner is worthless IMO.
