Agree with both of you guys (WSH and moraga).

We all tend to analyze this subject too much but when you're knee deep into these pieces of art, but it's fun and educational and sometimes helpful to others. I catch myself almost looking for something to gripe about. I am just thankful I can drive one of the best cars in the world.

As far as the V12 change, I don't know if this will actually come about. It was just something I glanced at somewhere on a forum that came to mind that I used as an example in my above post. 4 valves seems to be an introduction of more labor and trouble to repair.

One thing you mentioned WSH is the blind spot assist. I DO wish I had that. That is something that was a positive change in latter 08 models.

In connection with speculation over new engines interesting story this morning...

Introducing a brand new V12 does seem somewhat against the zietgeist...

Though the Mercedes premium end business has expectations that is not going to satisfied by a "S23 AMG!

I started a thread over on the E55/E63 forum, and an interesting point of speculation raised is that the much rumored V8 Twin Turbo may actually be a replacement for the current V12... That actually seems pretty believable the more I think on it...

It seems hard to see how MB can greatly improve the current V12 unless it becomes massively more powerful (and thirsty) still... just going from a 3 valve to a 4 valve design is not going to make that much difference... An NA design is going to be lacking in the torque department...

Going to a TT V8 in the next generation S/CL/SL would kind of "let down" the V12 market more gently.. in an engine that is (somewhat) more fuel efficient... and V8's were the standard big engine of the S-Class before the w140 (and still are in rival Bentleys etc) so there is a kind of tradition...

My morning speculation!

I notice that just first thing in the morning right after cranking it up, my car emits blue smoke for about 5 seconds. Is this normal?? Sounds like it is based on this thread.

I believe the 5secs of blue smoke on cold start-up is a normal/common turbo issue (like high oil burn and turbo lag/nonlinearity)....had it on two (of three) of my Porsche 911 Turbos....didn't have it on my previous 600/65's but would suspect it's within normal limits.....
