Huge Price Increase on MY08 S65

Loaded '07 S65 stickered for some $3K more than loaded '08 S65 at start of MY08 (AMG actually reduced prices on a tough-to-sell car).....so new, nominal '08 MSRP increase is perhaps $4-5K over new '07s....
Prob 90% of new S65s in major mkts are sold via $0 down, 2-3 yr leases anyway....not many financially astute guys like putting any upfront cash into a depreciating/at-physical-risk object such as any car (opportunity cost of capital); like advantages of lease-gap insurance; and like having MB Credit as car-owning entity in event of any liability situation.....
Most buyers of new S65s are reasonably intelligent; know S65 costs $100K in one-yr deprec (vs $50K in one-yr deprec for S63/600 and $30K one-yr deprec for S550)...and make their choices based upon own set of values....the incremental $50K in deprec over 63/600 may be trivial to many, esp if they enjoy value of more tq/higher-grade leather.....or absurd to some....know some rather affluent, jaded guys who get a new SL55/CL63 every yr; and view 65 as inferior from an overall engineering/dynamics perspective.....and others who get new 65 every yr.....personal preference....
Also, would suspect, given no. of new, unsold S/CL63/65 sitting at dealers in US, that discts from MSRP and poss cheaper lease terms will make today's new '08 S65 lease cheaper than lease of a new '07 S65 was some 15mos ago (at launch).....MSRP's don't mean much in real-world of supply/demand; a slowing US economy; and cooler, non-AMG weather arriving in NYC/Chicago, etc (and rains in CA).....

The depreciation is crazy, and when it comes to this kind of money (for me) I'd rather buy a year or two old, have someone else pay for the depreciation, and still be under warranty. Besides, I wanna keep mine and mod it, I can do (actually I HAVE to do!) without the latest and greatest, but I definitely understand those that do need to have that, no matter what the cost...
Is your supposition based on insider MB knowledge or a wild guess on your part? Up to now, the '07/'08 S65 did not include as standard all-the-options, quite different from the 'all-in' '07/'08 S600. Personally, I think that the idea to 'include-as-standard-all-options' is excellent for the S600 and equally valid for the top of the line AMG S65. In the long run, it will help resales & residuals of these vehicles and insure that the top S class vehicles are known for all of the innovative technology which MB is bringing out for their vehicles. Autotrader has approx. 22 '08 S65s listed and some of these are priced at MSRP below the $198K price point we are talking about in this thread. If we can get confirmation of the reason for this price increase (if true) in future '08 S65s from a person that works for MBNA or a MB dealer it would be helpful to our Forum members. Z356
