S63 Happy so far but dispointed with IPOD interface

I picked up my 2008 blk/blk loaded S63 Saturday with every option except the performance package and so far I am happy with everthing except the IPOD interface.

I mainly listen to books and maybe I am not using it correctly but instead of pausing the book when a call comes in it just mutes the book during the call so when the call is over you wind up missing a bunch of stuff. there is no easy way to rewind and you cannot control the IPOD's controls at all when its hooked up so you must remove the ipod from the cable, plug in headphones and manually rewind. Not an easy thing to do at 150 MPH.

I think the cable replaces the the Aux jack so I can't just string a wire from the glove box and put the IPOD in the cup holder to easily pause when the phone rings. Is anyone here having similar problems?

Also my check engine light went on after 75 miles but went off 50 miles later after refueling and making sure the gas cap was nice and tight (although it did not seem loose when I removed it)

Regards,
Don Biz

Doubt one would want to be focusing on/using iPod/audio/Bluetooth/cupholders, etc at even >80MPH, esp on non-German roads.....simple universal laws of common-sense physics/safety....

iPod was apparently a late-stage decision by MB, so integration is clearly inept, very after-mkt-like.....

IMO, biggest issue w/otherwise brilliant S63 is the laughable plasticky/low-grade plastic-look leather throughout.....a $150K perf limo?????

Agreed about the poor iPod integration... There appears no way of pausing a track.. the only way I can find to do this is to change from Aux and switch back to Radio in Command! Also the (slow) speed at which it scrolls through playlists on the console screen is a PITA...

just curious don, why didnt you get the performance package? I think those rims look 1000 times better than the regular wheels.

AUX vs IPOD?

Does anyone know if the AUX inputs in the glove box will still work if I have the IPOD interface (which is selected by choosing AUX) ?

Are you serious? The bottom line is, if you spend $135,000 every single thing in the car should work. My ipod is one of the best features in my S65 and it is very annoying because I have problems with it as well. It will lock up and I have to unplug it and plug it back in all the time. So annoying...

Factory ipod AAC Harness for 2007-2008 S and CL Class

this interface should help you out from Mid City Engineering:

AAC221 Factory ipod AAC Harness for 2007-2008 S and CL Class
2007-2008 MY S and CL models that have the factory ipod kit lose the ability to use the auxiliary input when the ipod is unplugged. 2008 Models have an A/V aux input (red, white, yellow) in the glove box but only the video input works. The factory ipod kit leaves the audio portion (red and white RCA jacks) disconnected. The AAC221 is a custom replacement harness that reconnects the audio input. The interface works as follows: When the ipod is plugged in the ipod will play over Auxiliary. When the ipod is unplugged the AAC will automatically switch the input to the glove box RCA inputs.

Performance Package value

Just an FYI. I priced an additional set of 030 Package wheels from mercedes $10,000.00. Add tires and you are at over $12,000.00. I finally found some new takoffs and had wheel sensors put in for $5200 ( i use on set for track and one for street). Also the Perelli Pzero tires are terrible. Get Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (when dealer get them back in stock) they dont flatspot and get out of round like the P-zero.

Awesome!

Great Web site! I just emailed you on pricing for the cable and I think I am interested in the Mercedes 2008 S and CL Class Video in Motion Interface and the radar detector as well

best solution for you is to just plug your ipod into your ears and take the damn bus instead.

At $135k you have more of a right to complain about the most minute detail that is inadequate....

The ipod interface sucks. Especially having to fiddle with the phone controls. It is a lot better on my S than on the SLK as the S has 4 way arrows with a ok button on the steering.

On the SLK i have to use the phone controls to confirm a choice. In that car, i have no patience to scroll so I just use playlists.

I really wish MB would integrate I pod into command (they had enough time to do this for the S). When this becomes reality it will simply be brilliant!

What really bugs me about the IPOD interface is that it doesn't pause when the phone rings. I listen to a lot of books from Audible.com and if I get a call not only does it not pause but I have found no way to rewind reliably with the steering wheel controls without it taking you all the way back to the begining of the book.

Since the screen on the IPOD is disabled when the interface is hooked up you can't use the IPOD controls either. Instead you must detach the IPOD, plug in some headphones, and search through 8 hours of reading until you find the spot you left off......all of this at 125 mph. Luckily I opted for distronic plus (which is also great for text messaging)
