Valentine

Valentine is the best. It shows you the direction the signal is coming from. It show you how many signals there are, too. I own 4 of them.

I had the K40 bluetooth (stealth) installed after using a V1 for years.

Absolutely V1 is best for detection.

But I like the laser diffuser in the Calibre K40, works well.

Bottom line, I use them both - but remove and store the V1 in states/provinces where radar detectors are prohibited.

The Valentine One is the best radar/laser detector and the Laser Interceptor is the best laser jammer.

I am a huge fan of the Valentine 1. Like many here, I've got a unit for each of my cars. My disappointment with the company is their failure to move into the high end stealth market; I'd like a "Calibre" like model made by Valentine. Increasingly I don't like having a big box mounted to my dash, and having the unit inside on the S65 is not ideal. Windsheld tint restricts the area you can place the unit, and my side and rear windows are tinted with a film containing particles that reduce the amoung of signal that get inside so the 360 protection of the V1 is not as effective as in my other cars.

I've been looking hard at the K40 Calibre, the new bluetooth version makes wiring much easier, no wires to run from the front and rear bumpers to a central control box. If V1 made such a unit I'd snap it up, even at the $1,600+ price of the Calibre.

Don't know why V1 is not pursuing the remote unit market, but I bet a lot of loyal V1 owners would buy a high end unit from the company.

Distronic plus uses a radar signal at 24.125 GHz, that signal will get picked up by a radar detector as a K band hit. If you have distronic plus turned on your detector, (and everyone around you) will get a continous K Band alert. Since much of the traffic radar in the US is K Band, disabiling K Band on your detector is not a good idea.

Distronic adaptive control operates at 25.3 GHz and will not cause a K Band alert.

I had the Escort SR7 with the ZR3 Laser Diffuser and loved it but nothing beats the range and accuracy of the Valentine. The arrows are lifesaver. My cousin used the K40 Calibre Bluetooth on his Lambo and hated it. Just because its expensive and uses the latest technology doesn't mean it can beat proven champs like Valentine and Passports.

I've got either Escort's or Passports in all five cars and love them. Have not tried the V1 but from all the positive posts here I think I'll give the V1 a try when I replace one of my Escorts. By the way, I have NEVER had an Escort or Passport fail. Some of mine are over five years old and still working well.

This is a huge deal and along with the coating on the windshield makes a Radar on a US car that has distronic plus almost impossible/pointless. If you look on one of the other posts there is some type of mod to disable distronic plus at low speeds somehow. But really there is no perfect fix that I know or have heard of.

Detectors are ok if the cops have their radar guns on steadily.
What if they have an instant on? Would that be a laser, in which case you need a laser jammer-- as well?
BTW, when on the hwy, if your detector goes off, don't hit the brakes right away, take your foot off the gas and gear down, so they cops well behind you don't see your brake lights go on. this has been know to give you away.

I have a "Friend" who's used the Calibre Bluetooth (front/rear detectors and laser jammers) in his LS430 and now in his S600. He's been pleased with the results, although he'd prefer the V1.

Problem is, he's in Virginia and detectors are illegal (don't get me started!!) here, so he must mount it covertly in the front grill and rear bumper.

If the V1 had a similar install package with Bluetooth, I'd have him switch over.

Not correct. I would def brake. Gearing down takes a while to slow you down and by the time you pass the cop you will still be speeding... trust me I used to think like this and it got me a ticket.

I've actually heard that some of the manufacturers are literally GIVING departments the newest units and guaranteeing enough positive cashflow to pay for the units in a short period of time (otherwise the department can return the unit at no charge).....although I can not substantiate this statement - it wouldn't surprise me.
