First off, I'd like you to explain what you mean by Gen 3 before the new body style? the Gen 3 IS the new body style. I love both cars, but im sorry, a stock S55 cannot beat a Viper. Now, if you possibly raced a Gen 2 viper, then that could explain that you beat it. But since you just said the Gen before the new body style you either 1. Dont know about Vipers, or 2. made a typo.

I was just saying how a luxo barge of the same generation/years will hand this purpose built sports cars their asses in a straight line, on how many of those other sports car enthusiast are surprised about the 55's power and speed. That's even with an extra passenger, dog in the back, luggage and all in the comfort of Air Conditioning.
I have driven my buddy's viper and they are very hot after an afternoon of driving, and not a car that you could use as a Daily driver in my opinion.

Iceman good job Guys it is not so hard to believe. If you take a few moments to go to dragtimes.com and compare E55/S55 against the vipers 03 and up you will find that atleast from a drag racing view our 55k cars are a pretty good match. Copy and paste.....You will see that we are right there and we all know that there are some slower 55 cars out there than others, so could it be possible that there are slower vipers than other vipers? btw, all numbers are for stock cars.
The other day I saw an episode of Pass Time and a guy had a black c6 z06 and he said it had intake, cam and heads with over 500hp to the wheels and he ran horrible 13.01 or something like that. If I raced that guy and he ran like that I would have put car lengths on him.(until the power to weight ratio takes over) Iceman's race to me sounds like a drivers race.

seems like you're not sure what you raced, it does make a big difference..... there is no GEN II SRT10.....
you probably raced a GEN I Viper RT/10 (415 HP), 1992-1996, which would explain your results.... most people can't tell the difference between GEN I and GEN II RT/10's (very similar body styles, different engines)

You are a hater, not because you are asking questions, but because of the tone of your post, just because your current vehicle cannot do it, does not mean the rest of our AMG's can't....
Go buy yourself a 55 and then come and report back.
I'm not an expert on Vipers, got the years mixed up.
But I do know that there are 4 different generation, of the vipers.
Done arguing the point.

Below is a pic of the model I raced.

I thought the first Vipers had 400hp and not until 96 when they switched the exhaust to go out back the rt/10 jumped to 415 and when the GTS came (96)out did it jump to 450? The rt/10 didn't get the 450hp until 97. When I was younger I wanted a viper so I followed them up until they switched the body style.

And, yes the "tone" of my posts are very sarcastic. I don't find doing 155 mph on a highway with a loved-one in the car and a pet in the backseat very commendable without a roll-cage, firesuit and an ambulance standing by.
Not interested in an S class. I'm very happy with my current cheapy C class (no offense to other C class owners) thank you very much!
FYI, my husband owns a 2000 ACR...been there done that. Oh, and did I mention, I also hate ego-maniacs?
I'm done arguing this point too.

The picture above is an RT/10 with a removable roof. The GTS had a fixed roof. An SRT10 came out as a 2003+ model. They are still called an SRT10, either convertible, or coupe now.

So as far as for your socio-economic, poor me, the mean guy in the s-class is beating on me because my car is cheaper argument, is not going to fly here ma'am, if you have a valid argument then bring it, other wise myself and the rest of the board is going to see through that pitty argument whether you are a man or woman, or you drive a Vyeron or a yugo.
So to each it own, and.... "Go sell crazy somewhere else... we're all stocked up here."

FYI: 95% of ACR's sold had the comfort group which included air-conditioning and a radio but did not include fog lights. Driving long distances have never been a problem. Chriropractors not required.
Sorry to have offended you.

glad you didnt kill anyone....at least they wouldnt have suffered. You and the gf might have suffered with all the safety equipment the S has. You probably only would have been paralyzed....not killed. And no im not a hater.
With all the money you have to afford an S class, buy yourself a weekend sports car that you can take to the track and not kill anyone. Try a Cobra with Roush 427....say by-by to any Z06 or Ford GT unless they have >1000HP.

When my husand bought his 2000 Viper ACR which was bone stock at the time, it was a pretty comfortable car considering it was a beast. It really wasn't all the difficult to drive either. Of course now, with all of the mods he's done to it, I can't stand to be in the car for more than a few hours at a time!
Thank you for the apology, but you did not Offend me.

Inadequate drivers training and education, on which the average US driver has to rely on.
That the drivers test in most states is to drive in a parking lot and parallel park, and you have a license. So when the average driver encounters an emergency situation, they panic and cause accidents.
That the average US driver, eats, drinks, smokes, puts on make up, reads books and yaps on the cell phone while driving, and in conclusion, that the average US driver has no concept of what the left lane is for, and likes to ride it while doing 40MPH and yapping on the phone, forcing the rest of traffic to pass on the right, simply because they don't want to move.
Pay attention to this when you travel long distance next, on how the further most right lane almost always is devoid of traffic and the left lane is packed.
I'm glad you are no hater, kudos sir.

Whatever there's gas in...
why so much drama against the AMG guy claiming to beat a Viper RT/10? Aren't we MB/AMG fans? I dont think he would come on the board to lie about a kill against a Dodge. Just IMO..Kudo's on the kill btw..the S55k is a badass family car.
Windee calm down.

First, let me say it is not very responsible racing on the streets. Second, with that being said, anything can happen when street racing. It does not take a skilled driver to just smash an auto and hold on but anyone who has driven a manual knows you can lose 2-3 seconds to correctly downshift to the proper gear, blip the throttle to a certain rpm and take off. I do not doubt your claim. Trust me, Vipers are more suited for the track. That is what they were built for. Have driven several S55's.
Car is to darn big and heavy. If you were to race me in my '05 Viper...you would have a good view of my rear!!
Happy motoring

Yep, Vipers are cool. Got rid of my SRT10. The 03 was just too hot in the cockpit. Was a pretty fast car though. I think I remember dusting an E55 in it. My opinion is that the cool factor on the Viper outweighs it's speed and handling.

A very warm cockpit is common in the GIII 03-06 due to the crossover pipe of the exhaust located under the seats. '08 has no crossover pipe and the cabin is much cooler. As far as the 'coolness' of the Viper...no doubt. However, the car is not for everyone. Wasn't meant to be. As far as comparing it to a 4-door sedan..any sedan is absolutely ridiculous. But always makes interesting read.

not hating just something to think about.
